whats the difference betwenn SATA and IDE

    whats the difference betwenn SATA and IDE? how can i tell if my dvd burner is SATA or IDE? I HAVE AN HP DESKTOP

    ide use a 40 pin cable about 2 inches wide wereas sata uses a cable a half inch wide.
