I live in Florida..... I do flood restoration...... and when there isn't any water damages I do carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning and tile and grout cleaning and sealing. I service 3 Marriotts, all resort hotels! I made out like a little bandit when hurricane Rita and Wima hit! Right now I put away for my retirement and having my house redone. What a mess!
@IHoe...sorry to hear about your situation guy; must really suck. You guys sure have had more than your share. I use to live in Miami a long time ago but moved back up north about two months before Andrew in '92. I do a couple of things on the side but I've been a full time social worker for the last 13-14 years. I work with education and training, grants, market demands etc. Being a social worker in a big city, you often think you've seen just about every sort of dysfunction and social ills possible when something new comes along to stun you a bit more. Political correctness can often be a big stumbling block. Not long ago I had a transvestite telling me that he couldn't find a job and didn't understand why...unable to state the obvious, what could I tell him...tone down the makeup? You don't wear an evening gown to a job interview? Ah well, it sure can be interesting at times! Right now it's slow because of Christmas but come the day after New Year's Day, it will be a nightmare ... New Year's resolutions!
@gerry1 I'm sure you have a lot of good stories! The transvestite one is pretty funny!! I head the business process & developement dept. in a real estate company. No real good stories w/ my job though I have had some pretty whacked employees.
@binkie...yeah, we have a lot of whacked employees too; it's an occupational hazard with us, hell, it's even expected of us but saves our necks sometimes too. Yesterday, I forgot I had a meeting with some of our big shots...they were all wearing expensive suits and ties and I walked in dressed like Elmer Fudd. We deal with a lot of stuff that is just plain disgusting...not funny at all but we deal with a lot of bizarre but really funny stuff too. I should have all my co workers write their favorites; I think I could come up with quite a collection.
@Gerry..... I used to own my own Dry Cleaning store and I can tell you unbeliveable stories, too! You wouldn't believe what people leave in their pockets....... from used condums, to diamond rings!!!!! And I can't tell you what I used to find in the lint traps!!!!! hahahahahaha Now I go to people's homes and do their carpet cleaning ........ I get greated at the door from young girls in their bikinis and wanting me to go to their rooms!!!! I also do Marriott Beach Place Towers in Ft Lauderdale and sometimes they give me the wrong room #s to clean........ I can't tell you how many times I interrupted couples doing it on the sofa!!!!!! hahahahahah I laugh... it's fun!!! The stories I can tell you......
@IHoe;...I'd really be careful putting your hand in those pockets or reaching between the sofa cushions! I'm not into the sort of social work that requires that I go to peoples' homes; damn good thing too because what my coworkers find usually isn't amusing in the least. My friend's kid brother is a UPS driver / delivery man and he's got some great stories too! Apparantly, there's actually some sort of "UPS" delivery man fetish of some sort. (This thread is starting to sound like we're making plans for a porn flick!)
@Gerry...... I am very careful....... and I can tell you more than a time or two that I got those UPS delivery guys beat!!! Once I picked up an oriental carpet for cleaning and the lady wouldn't let me leave!!!! It was the last job of the day and I was about 75 miles from home and hungry!! She not only cooked me dinner but we cooked also! I had the time of my life! use your imagination!!! she was a knock out! hahahahaha
@gerry1 Thats some solid advice...I'll keep it mind next time I go to an interview. I bet you can get some pretty good ideas of how to be a nutcase from your clients... You should start a new thread just about your experiences...LOL It would be hilarious.
Yeah, having a thread like that might be good for a laugh. Just this morning, a buddy at the office was working with a woman who lost her job at one of these fancy-schmantzy clothing stores where you pay like $200 for a shirt. On her resume, she wrote that she "Courteously and thoroughly served the needs of discriminating gentlemen on the floor of the men's department".
@IHoe...I don't know if she was blonde or not but despite her seriously poor choice of words, I'm told she was actually pretty bright ... a redhead maybe? strawberry blonde? By the way, there is a thread of blonde jokes (and other threads for a variety of jokes; I think they're here in this forum but I'm not sure. I should start posting to one of them. Somewhere in my junk, I've got a book called 1001 of the world's most tasteless jokes; many of them would surely get me banned but not all of them.
