First: The setup: LaCie D2 16x + Lightscribe Toast 7.01 Philips DVP 642/17 (updated to latest firmware) Then, the Problem: I just received the LaCie as a gift, and am trying desperately to burn a DVD; so far without success. The player has no problems playing store-bought DVDs, but when I insert any of my burned disks, I get the "NO DISK" error. I have burned an avi to a cd-rom, and it played without a hitch on the player, so I think the burner is OK. The Media: I have used Apple DVD-R, HP-Lightscribe DVD+R, HP DVD-R (which I hear are garbage), and one Verbatim DVD+R The DVDs I have burned, almost without exception, play fine on my Mac, but the player will not see them. (I even tried using DragonBurn, also without success.) Is this as simple as a media problem? I had high-hopes for the Verbatim DVD+R, which did not work--though I did burn that at 8X. If so, is there a reliable media out there that I can buy readily at a Staples or CompUsa? I hear good things about Sony media, but it is hard to tell whether it is taiyo yuden from the label. I would like to find a media that works well before I invest in getting a pile of disks. If there is something else I have missed, please let me know; I don't know anything about bit-setting (or whatever it is called), and do not know if I can even do this on a Mac (nor do I know how to find the mechanism in the drive--Pioneer or NEC). However, it seems to me that it would not be necessary; no one else has issues with this player. Any and all help appreciated --Roo
i totally agree with this one, they are totally garbage.. stick only to verbatims. i'm not sure why they didnt burn right. in my sig there is the link to media inspector.. download that (freeware) and post up what you find. if you get fuji, and if they are made in japan, they are TY. the only way i've seen this one work is if you have the drive put into a pc and then use a firmware update to "flash" the drive. it is a risky thing. you may end up making your drive useless. this one is easy.. there's a forum here for dvd media.. there's usually something about sales on media for local stores. just check every sunday mainly.. . http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/47 it might be just the media. dont burn at 8x... do only at 4. hope that helps you somewhat
