Nice setups all around - don't think I've seen a truly sorry mess in this entire thread. I got me new desk and chair so here are they are. I took the old pics down so here's the whole shebang again. Nice digs Sam, too bad you got so cramped at university. This is the entire desk, Here are some close ups. Left side with my Linux box, Center with my 32" Polaroid HDTV, Right side with my Windows box, And here's the cushy new chair My goal with this new one was no exposed wires cluttering about under the desk (my OCD kicking in) - it took a bit of finagling but I managed to do it.
I'll try to post pics of my new setup now that I've got all my Xmas stuff when I get my camera working sometime today. That is a nice setup though Nephilim, it's probablly the best one I've seen. @Nephilim, sorry this is off topic but do you think if you get a chance you could please do something about this "FREE NINTENDO WII !!!!!!! REED BEFORE YOU THINK SCAM" thread. I reported a while ago but I guess nobodys got to it yet.
pm me a link - the ban button is quivering right now I forgot a semi-permanent fixture on my desk, Harvey. I had to shoo him off to take the previous pics then thought better of it He spots the pretty girls walking by so I don't miss them - what a good dog!
Thanks - I had to knock off alot of liquor stores to get all that I got the wallpaper off a site that offers makes them for dual monitors but they also work quite nicely for widescreens, http://www.vladstudio.com/duals/
That a cool website. I think I'll get a few of those backgrounds before I post my setup. What are the specs on the 32" monitor, I've been looking for something like that for a while. Off topic: I sent you a PM with the link, and ignore that one PM when I said it was closed. Because it wasn't.
I'll have to get some backgrounds from that site before I post my setup. What are the specs on that monitor (the 32") I've been looking for one like that. Off topic: I sent you a PM with a link to that thread that I requested closed. Although you may want to ban his IP, since he's claiming he's creating another account right now. Edit: Sorry double post.
sweetness Neph...I coulda sworn that you had a viewsonic monitor before, but it looks like an acer hooked up to the linux box.
Thanks boss The Viewsonic went to the folks and was replaced with the Poloroid. F.E.A.R. and porno are simply amazing on it I'll have some coffee brewed and Skype fired up in the morning - hope to catch you
Wow Neph! Love that setup and now I am jealous. I have that same HDTV, but it is in the bedroom. Maybe I can talk the old lady into letting me move it into the office ;-) Honestly Neph I love your setup and I will post some here of my new digs just as soon as I can find where I packed the damn Camera.
Thanks Brent - good to see you back my friend. Hope you find the camera - I love to see where evryone is sitting while running amok here
neph, very very nice chair, i want too!! =) (btw. got my laptop back from acer service, so i can now use skype again, i'll call you again.. looks like you're offline @ yim..) last seen 26 days ago.
Didn't manage to grab many photos in the end, but here are two of the lan party I was at over the weekend: Fellow lan-goer JLH attached my 3007WFP alongside his to run a dual 30" desktop. Cool though it was, unfortunately you can't run 3D or hardware video across two screens that size. - My corner at the party, the "Dell widescreen owners club" corner. Not an official split, but to the left of the screen is another 2407FPW, and to the right, just off screen beside my 3007, is my old 2407FPW now owned by corridor-mate Nick.
It's geekish as hell, but a whole lot of fun, and is basically an excuse to do nothing but play computer games with like-minded people for a weekend.
Janne, the chair's real nice - a major improvement over my last one - my butt and back are much happier now! [I got some electrical sidework for the next couple three days but I'll try to leave Kopete running if/when I'm on. I need to talk to you about scoring an 8 pound jug of VhitaVuori 3N37 pistol powder - it's made in Finland (Lapua Oy) and the markup here sucks ] Looks like you have about 30 miles of cables in that room Sam - be careful you don't lose anybody in that pile. Looks like there may be a whole convenience store worth of junk food in there too. So, for the sake of us old farts why don't some of you young fellers give us the 411 on the what/why/where/how of these LAN parties.
Ok all here is where I sit now. PC Specs (AMD Opteron 285 Italy 2.6GHz Dual Core Processor, LiteOn DVDR Drive's x2, ATI All inwonder, 1x 250 GB HD, 1x 400 GB HD, 3GB DDR2 SDRAM, 20" Wide Screen Sceptre Monitor) This is another set up in the kitchen area PC Specs (Intel Xeon EM64 3.6GHz Processor, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, 2x LiteOn 165H6S DVDR, Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS GDDR3 640MB, 19" LCD Monitor) Here is the TV in the bedroom the same as Neph is using for a monitor. I will have this in the office before long! Hopefully
I'm glad you can't see the floor! That's where most of the cables lie! Okay so a brief rundown on FragSoc, York university's LAN party: What: a gathering of about 40 PC gamers to play each other at any games they like, however they like, in an all-through-the-night session. When: Events held 3 times an academic term (9 times a year), from Saturday 1200 until Sunday 1800 straight (ish, events usually finish a bit later). Events start at 1000 when an electrical safety tester is present, since all equipment is required to have passed a certified PAT. Where: Goodricke College Maths classrooms, four classrooms booked out. How: User PCs, and several fileservers, linked by Gigabit switches to an un-filtered section of the university internet connection (100Mbit). 16-port switches per room, additional 8-port switch for fileservers. A long network cable (usually 5m) to each PC within a room, and 20 or so metre cables between rooms linking the switches.
