You can easily burn an AVI with Nero (or any other burning software).
    What's the problem?
    Just burn it man!
Could it be, though, that you wish to turn the AVI into a compliant DVD?
Nero will do that, but you must purchase their MPEG2 (DVD) codec, for $25 bucks.
What is your trouble, that is killing you?
Just complete the transaction, it is quick and easy, and you will be good-to-go in about 10 minutes time.
If it is the thought of paying that's killing you, try TMPGEnc, or DVDSanta, or DVD2SVCD + QUenc, or whatever...
    Personally I use Nero - best $25 I ever spent :)
