So I'm looking to buy a tablet pc for school.

    I'm looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147952
    and
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147990

the difference is the processor, soundcard, and HDD size, but I honestly can't figure out which is better (price is disregarded). The best processor is the one I want, and I'm guessing the 2mb of L2 cache is better?

So which would you recommend and why, and is there a better alternative (less than $1100)?

The AMD Turion X2 Ultra is the better chip, and you can buy a 500GB hard drive for less than the price difference if you need. But there is a better option.

You can go to HP's website and spec out these units to be rather nice...
For under $1100 you can get all this:
Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) (plus upgrade to win7)
    AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-86 (2.4GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
    4GB DDR2 System Memory
    500GB HDD
    ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics with 64MB
12.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)w/Integrated Touch-screen
    LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW
Personalization Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Reaction)
    Networking Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
