Which laptop to buy?

    Hi there im in the market for a new laptop. I am a student goin to university next year and im wondering which type of laptop to get? What brands are good? I dont want to spend more than a $1000....

    Get a desktop, man. I had a laptop, and I only took it out of my room once, and I could have avoided that incident with a bit of planning. A desktop will give you more power (read: gaming capabilities) for your dollar.

    With $1000, you can get something that will play all the latest games easily.

    Sorry for not answering your question directly, but this is some solid advice I wish someone had given me before I spent $800 on a Laptop that struggles (10 FPS) to play Portal.

    Of course, if your interests are purely academic, and all you want is a word processor, you don't need to spend $1000 on a Laptop. However, if you want games, spend that $1000 on a Desktop.

    I have a alienware 17" laptop that will outperform most desktops and it plays any game very well with 1900+1200 res.Its a littel heavy but portable and will do antthing I ask it to. I have had it 3 years now. But you better get your visa card out.
