My "luck" with Pinnacle IC will surely break one day. I have yet to suffer one single "oversizing" issue ! (famous last words!)

It's good to know that Shrink 3.2 will be faster than Pinnacle.

This question has probably been asked before. Could the new "quality options" be selected on any compression level, by the user (as an option), rather than the preditermined setting that you suggested?. I appreciate that the level of image "improvement" may be negligible. I have a 44" projection (sony) TV and any quality "tweak" would be appreciated.

No, what made you ask that?
Is it because your eyesight, blurred by anger or rigthfulness, made you misread my post?
I did say better formatted form, right, not forum.
Maybe it wasn't the best wording, but I do believe it to be highly understandable.
Or maybe you once again discovered the hidden truth, my secret agenda. ;)

As far as I know it cannot I'm affraid.
Keep in mind the level at which the new options kick-in is not based on a % ratio, I only used it as an example (wrongly, maybe).
The new compression algorithm will actually "decide" (rightly, hopefully).

I've traced your net contributions' and you're not a very nice person. I don't know why "ShrinK," chose you as his messanger." but he erred? You came to a thread where everyone was already waiting for DVD Shrink's latest update to be released and turned them off.

Guess about the point we disagreed was the cult status and the use of Shrink to rip for the other programs. Guess you missed the part where I said I had run into situations where like use induced problems.

I'll give you a particular example. I was comparing DVD2One, Shrink, Recode2 and DVDCopy2 for large movies using John Wayne's 'Green Berets'. In one step, I was in a hurry and used the program at hand to rip, Shrink. I used the file for DVDCopy2 and it induced the square block pixels in some spots in the beginning of the movie. I ripped the same files with DVD Decrypter and the problem wasn't evident. I was able to recreate the same situation with the same discs, so it wasn't an accident. This discussion occurred several weeks ago and Sophocles and Bigorange can vouch for said findings. Not prepared for this incident.

As I told them then, an induced situation I didn't blame on anything other than improper use of the software. Using transcoded files to use in another transcoding software is not an unbiased act, even without compression. Note you said what I am most comfortable with. So when doing comparisons never use the compared software to prepare files for other software in the comparison.

As for the cult status, I don't feel I exaggerated. Your actions in themself prove much of the point there.

I like others applaud your work with Shrink. Your guides have helped many learn the use of Shrink and gave them their start in editing. Among other things, Shrink is an excellent learning tool.

I too don't believe you intentionally biased the results. But a preference for said software entered into the scheme of things. The Beta testing was even done under conditions with the chosen. How many of the testers weren't ardent users of Shrink? One closed group was used for the testing. Someone should have volunteered to help Mr Shrink wade through the results so he could have used some critics in the test.

Some of the names you mention are ardent supporters of Shrink. Doom9 and MrBass. I noticed the forum where Shrink asked for input and he had difficulty due to everyone singing the praises and not giving critical thought to the process. It seems Shrink had an idea of what he wanted to do and he ended up doing it.

As my previous posts stated, I wish the program well and I don't mind a little eye candy for promo. But telling us and our not being able to use the software ourselves is fruitless. There were never any grounds for comparison and still aren't. Good promo - poor comparison.

The cult like situation exists, the bias exists, and coming to this forum and being condescending because of your involvement with Shrink exists. Becoming embroiled in a fire fight helps no one. While I've been preparing this post I fear the flames have grown. I learned long ago, no one really wins and often both sides walk away harboring ill will. Great guides and a good program. Don't belittle either with actions you may regret later. I've stepped on the land mine myself and know from experience.

brobear, I do not hold a grudge against you or any of the other participant to this thread.
If using "No Compression" can indeed cause the problems you described I was not aware of it.
If I had I would have use DVD Decrypter for the rip.

I still find the term "cult" a bit exagerated, I'd much prefer "ardent community". :D

If you'd never came here we'd be supporting DVD Shrink now in a week or so, but now everyone's pissed off at you. Why?

Well we're close, let's just call it overly ardent and call a truce. I believe we all can objectively look at the rest. In my verbose manner maybe I didn't emphasize the point I was trying to make. No one really wins a flame throwing contest.

    Sorry, I should have guessed.
I don't like watching "Forthcoming Attractions" either. ;)

Then let's be kind in our choice of words and let's end this debate, if you're with us then we're with you.

Good God, I'm outta da house for a couple o' hours and this is what I come back to? It looks like a scene from LOTR-ROTK, fires everywhere, rampant wanton destruction! Somebody call the Red Cross, we've got wounded here!

Jeez, I just wanted to tell ddlooping that he tried the wrong Pinnacle. IC8 has none of the problems you stated in version 7.

All my copies come in at 4.3 or so. The quality is right up there with DVDCopy2, just not as fast, but nowhere near as slow as you stated for v7. I like menus and some extras and normal time is about 1-1 1/2 hours, 2 hours-tops. You can get 8 for 25.00, don't know what you spent on 7 but I was under the impression IC8 was used in the test. Am I correct?

BTW, I am a member of Digital Video and no one asked me to participate in any beta testing.

As far as my hype comment goes, there was no particular reference to you, just in general over at Digital Video, which as I stated before, definitely would seek retribution, if I made a negative comment about Shrink. If this isn't cult, it sure borders on it.

I would like to add, this is a great bunch here at AD. I read several forums before I decided to get involved here. People here ARE individuals and have their own opinions, but for the most we all get along, like and respect each other. Doesn't mean we have to agree, only to agree we will most assuredly disagree. This isn't the 1st flare up and I am positive when I say it won't be the last.

dd, you're a member here, so you know whereof I speak.

    Bottom line:

We all are open to change, if it's better-we'll use it, if it ain't-we won't.

bigorange, I did use IC8 trial version for the tests.
As far as DVDCopy2 is concerned, let's agree to disagree. ;)
P.S: do you want me to include it in a compilation? :D
