Sophocles ... I had remembered that from a post going back a few months, and so I thought I'd mention it. DVD2One doesn't get a lot of attention anymore with all the new sw out there, but it is still a very good app in the right circumstances. IMO, v1.5 with the new engine is better, and I was surprized with the Ben Hur results.

There is also a new "Low, Medium, High" encoding feature. I haven't been able to understand the instructions on which one to select, but Low worked quite nicely.

Where I see DVD2One filling its niche is with the kids 2-disc movies. I expect more and more of these in the future, and the join feature is very simple. This is nice and quick, and I also don't have to "waste" an extra disc. The kidos don't much like my editing either, thinking that trailers, etc., is all part of what they paid for. (I wonder about their taste also).

Speaking of taste, I saw where a remake of the Manchurian Candidate was just released to the big screen. Apart from the Beach Blanket Bingo genre, we had some pretty good movies back then.

    doc

I've suggested DVD2one 1.14 many a time for adjoining two halves of a movie. I used it to join Amadeus which came as a 2 sided disc. Even though it wasn't a seemless joining the i/5 of second sure beats getting up and flipping the disc.

BTW, with DareDevil remember that the multi andgles are in more than one title set. I know most of them are in title 4 but I'm pretty sure that the rest are in title 6 (if not check the rest but it is above 5 for sure), you may have to expand it (+). When you get to title six and you right click and choose Strip all angles, a window will popup, just choose angle 1 and click OK. That's all you have to do to back up DareDevil and after you blow off the subtitles and extra audio tracks, the movie comes in around 6 gigs and it works perfectly with DVD-RB/CCE.

Sophocles, I mentionned using DVD2DVD-R/CCE when the compression required is > 20-25% a couple of times in this thread.
Once on page 12 (my 7th post), the other on page 14 (my 1st post). ;)

Doc409, I'm really surprised at the results you obtained with DVD2One v1.5, especially considering the amount of compression required (12.4GB >> 4.7GB = 36% of original size).
I can't see any transcoder being able to deliver artefact/macroblocking free output at this level.
Would you mind telling us what viewing equipment you used?

I also tested the three new compression settings (on LOTR-ROTK / a ratio of about 62% if I remember correctly), but found them all to be noticeably inferior to DVD2One own Variable setting.
Any theory as to why this could be?

Yes I remember, I just didn't think it was a you genuine choice for you. On occasion I also use DVD2DVD-R/CCE, when a movie only choice makes a difference but with DVDremake I can trim and keep the extras, except where movies are so large that they don't have room for extras. Have you tried DVDrebuilder with CCE?

Only once, and I got an error message that terminated the process.
I decided to wait for it to be more debugged and reliable.
I'll definately give it another try when I'm back from abroad (in a couple of weeks).

I think that you'll find DVDrebuilders new 1 click feature a time saver.

Traveling are we? When you say abroad you don't mean just a minor excursion across the Mediterranean do you?

ddlooping... ...Yeah, I was surprized too. I have a P2.66 w/512DDR and a cheapo Matsonic MB. I am viewing on a 17 inch monitor without the aide of any video card. I use the same burner to view - Sony 530A. I also have a regular TV, so that isn't much of a test.

The other thing that I found surprising were the facial tones. When I ran Ben Hur thru DVDCOPY2, the faces flickered with a green-red balance. DVD2One had constant tones.

I would certainly be interested in a second opinion? Let me know (PM) how I can get these results to you, and I will.

PS. It goes without say, I used Ritek G04 media.

Not across the Mediterranean, Sophocles, across the Channel. ;)

Doc409, I'd appreciate if you could make a small compilation (2 clips of about 5 seconds) containing a scene from the original, and the same scene from the DVD2One backup.
Let me know if you have some webspace where you could upload it.
I'll reply tomorrow though, as I'm off to bed now (gotta be up in 6 hours for work).

Sure thing. I have never needed to make a clip, so just tell me how it's done. Do you want to see part of the chariott scene, or what? Also, I think I can put this on photobucket.com.

hey doc, IV windvd 6 is excellent for capture clips or single frames. You can also use magnification any where you desire to spot pixels, fuzziness, etc. You can then send these to any email recipient or post on a site. My favorite SW player.

Has a free 30 day trial, warning, if you use it, you will want to keep it.

Hmm! Belgium Beer, ou Du Bierre au Belgique

If my grammar is bad or I've miss spelled a word or two I apologize but it's been over 20 years since I've lived around anything but English speaking people, and even then writing it was a challenge.
