    ddlooping...
Since you pointed it out, it does seem off topic. There are several threads going right now that all have a central theme regarding transcoders, and being somewhat senile in my old age, it was easy to get them all mixed together.
    ---
Edit. I also understand how the topic of this thread is of particular importance to you. The title of the thread pretty much defined what subset in the universe would be responding ... and that would be those with experience with several different transcoders. And, I think this group is fairly limited right now.

I tried for a while to keep the thread on topic but the thread has a life of its own. I even asked a moderator to cancel it, which he did for about a day and then he restored it. There is a thread that is dedicated to DVDremake/DVD-RB/CCE but has sort of become an extension of this one. When Vurbal completes his guide then we will probably start a new thread. Hopefully we won't muddy the waters in it so that it can serve as a guide to new users.

Hey dd ... back on topic.

With regard to posting/getting you the Ben Hur clips, I have decided to try the WinDVD 6 trial. I have a lot going this weekend, so it may be Monday before I can get it all figured out.

The Ben Hur (c.1959) backup was 4.36 GB compared to the 12.4 original. As to any theories about any settings, I don't know enough yet to give an informed opinion. The one thing about older movies, though, is that they have an inherent "grainy" appearance from the get-go. I'm thinking that some engines deal with this differently than others. (COPYDVD2 was horrible). Also, smaller artifacts may be more difficult to spot, especially in action scenes.

I suspect that artifacts will begin to show at some level of magnification. I didn't see them on my 17 inch monitor at 1724 X 768, or on a regular TV set. I believe the real achievement, though, was shown in the 10 minute chariot race where everything was moving. As an example, the camera truck, which was pacing with the chariots, showed the horses galloping left to right, while at the same time the background was moving right to left. There were times when nothing on the screen was stationary ... and there wasn't any freezing or macroblocking. Given my own experience with transcoders, I consider this to be an achievement.

I am now curious as to how DVD2One 1.5 will handle a newer movie. As time permits, I'll try one. The hopper is a little full right now.

Thanks for the feedback, Doc 409. :)

The title says Transcoding tools. That doesn't limit the discussion to transcoders. Editing tools as they apply to transcoding are part of tools, as well as decrypters and burners. As long as the discussion follows these lines, they may go off on a tangent, [bold]but they are not off subject.[/bold]

A very solid point, and one that perhaps I've forgotten over the near 2 months its been running. I see you're in the lurking phase again. Just sort of popping in and out.

    double "d"

Since you already have CCE it wouldn't be much of stretch for you to join us, someone with your insight and experience have a lot to offer. And DVD-RB is free.

brobear, since soph seems to be experimenting with sigs, I thought I would leave this one as that's where I'll be for the next 2 days. Hopefully a couple of 24"-30" rainbows will be photographed.(i catch and release)

hey doc, how ya like IV's windvd 6? pretty nifty for test comparisons using the frame capture and 30 sec clip feature. Not to mention the magnification feature. Made to order for beta testing.

Actually one of the things i have wanted to try is saltwater flyfishing, you live in a good area for that on the Gulf side where the water is calmer and more shallow.

You know what I mean about the sigs[IMG]

I knew you would eventually get a sig, although I'm little disappointed that you rejected my kangaroo.

Not to spoil the fun, but I thought that I would pop back in here ... and report that all went well with stripping the angles with DareDevil ... then making it through RB-CCE without the #0003 ... and then doing an end burn. Thanks folks, for seeing me through this rite of passage.

I'm now on the hunt for new prey.
