    Hey bigo

No school is fine and so far it’s been a perfect beginning to a new school year. I've been spending so much time here at AD that I forgot about my creative side as a songwriter, so I thought I’d take a little time to complete my home recording studio and lay down a few tracks just to prove I can still play and sing. How’s your wife doing, is this “No Child Left Behind Law" getting to her yet? Tell her not worry eventually the government will realize that terrorizing teachers and students won’t work.

    Sophocles ...

[bold] "I've been spending so much time here at AD that I forgot about my creative side as a songwriter... "[bold]

I suspect that CSN concert re-ignited some of that creative energy, too, eh?

(Yeah, my stuff is in Finn also, and the above line is not meant to be bold, nor this one ... only Soph's statement.)

Actually it was your kind response to my song that reminded me how I'd gotten sidetracked, and the concert only reinforced that.

Well, CSN is a prime example that their "flavor" of Rock is timeless. And, if it's in one's blood, it's usually there to stay.

This past weekend I had your song going on the 'puter when my 13 yo daughter walked by. She asked "whose that"... and volunteered she liked it (too). I thought to test my 15 yo son ... but I already know he doesn't have any taste.

On another note, I woke up to 3 movies fresh out of Batch. It's still so new to me, I still get an ear-to-ear grin, and it starts my day off a good foot. What's the best transcoder (?) ... has to be RB-CCE.

Hmm! Just a little sidetracked because I agree, and I'm doing some batch processing tonight.

    (Sidetracked is OK.)

Now that transcoding doesn't need a "hands on" approach, I'm wondering what kind of system would speed up the rest (rip, RMP, etc)? Any ideas?

Soph, I've been thinking about you and the computers at school. I'll bet you could build one heck of a RB Farm!!!

    Hi all;
Been away for awhile, but just pulled in and found out the Nero has a new version of Recode 2. Has does it stand up to D.S. 3.2, or the others?

Can't see all the code for that darn man!

It's much improved, but I think the new shrink is better. It's vastly improved. RB/CCE is still the BEST! I still like IC 8 over shrink(shrink as an overall program is better, but IC 8 still has great quality. I have to use DVDRemake with it to re-author cos IC8's editing still sucks!), altho I'm sure Denis will argue that one. ;)

Recode comes in 5th for me, still gotta include DVDCopy 2 in the mix. lol

NOTE-denis, i clarified a little for your benefit before you think me ungrateful of Mr. shrink's efforts. I totally agree on the flexibilty part. :)

Before Denis gets too defensive let me say use the new shrink, it's a whole totally different program, and compared to 3.1 is mountains better in quality, features, and improved quality settings. You can now retain menu function after removing title. Works just like recode, you substitute a still image for the title.

Now, ya don't know anymore than you did before I answered, do ya. :)

Let just say that I disagree. :)

IMO, at its worse, v3.2 "Maximum Smoothness" will output the same quality as IC8.
And that's not considering DVD Shrink flexability. :p

The great thing about DVD Shrink is it has something for everyone. Although I use RB/CCE for all my encoding needs (Thanks largely to batch processing) before I even begin to encode a movie I'll run it through Shrink first for a quick analysis and it also gives a good quick view of the extras.

When I did my DRM guide I decided that to use Shrink in it for ripping for the same reason. Not to mention removing audio streams.

    Vurbal

Is the guide ready and available? My thought are that once it is, you'll need to start a new thread that also asks for successful edits (recipes) made using it.

It isn't up yet, but it was submitted yesterday. I'd try to give an ETA for part 2 (with more advanced stuff like removing angles and ILVU in it) but we both know I'd be lying. I never manage to get these things done when I think I will.

I wouldn't worry about when because its the I will that makes your guides special. You know we'll all use it and then some.

You'll need to start a new thread so that we can help you with some of your 2nd edition. Tell us what you need and we'll work on it.

Soph ... are you talking about starting a new thread with teh Remake guide - along the same lines as the RB-CCE "Are you having problems...?" If so, it sounds like a good idea. And, if ya'll think a FAQ section would be useful, let me know, and I'll keep it up.

    Doc

I think that Vurbal should start the thread and I also think that it should be separate from the [bold]RB-CCE "Are you having problems[/bold] thread because its use is much broader than just for RB/CCE although that's what we'll all be looking at. If Vurbal would like some assistance then we would all be ready to help out.

My thoughts are that this would be a thread that would be based solely on Vurbal’s guide, but with the realization that no one guide could ever cover all the variables that Remake will pose. Using the guide we will all inevitably come across movies that don’t quite fit within its framework and they will fall into a kind of recipe category. We’ll all join in and when we’ve had a success we’ll write it down to the best of our memories and share it with others. Or maybe we’ll all get together and tackle the same movie and report what works and what doesn’t.
