I have been running into the unreadable sector problem semi regular lately but have been getting around it with anydvd ripping at 1X.

Ripping at 1X and then RB/CCE? Have a little time on your hands?

It's still pretty rare. After several tries with DVDdecrypter and shrink I'm happy to let it do a slow rip. But if this becomes more prevalent then I will be less happy.

I only use Shrink if I intend to use it to edit and rip otherwise I'm still hooked on DVD Decrypter.

DVDshrink is just convenient. DVDdycrypter sticks in the same place as Shrink when I have a problem. I do use DVDdecrypter to slow the read to 1x sometimes.

For me it's the opposite, I use DVD Decrypter for speed.

DVDshrink can't slow the read so it seem to have problems with the newer copy protection.
Oddly I use DVDdecrypter often when using shrink to make an iso from the rebuilder files it will auto burn. I find Decrypter one of the most reliable burners around. I can even burn 2 different movies to 2 different burners at the same time.

It seems we all have our formula's. For example I just used Shrink to rip an 8 plus gig concert so that I could remove the LPCM sound track (redundant) and reduce the file size. Tonight I'll run them through batch processing and tomorrow I'll burn them.

I have found that Decrypter will rip files that Shrink won't. I have also found that Smartripper will do files that past versions of Decrypter had a problem with. I've yet to need Smartripper with the latest release of Decrypter. When a problem did come up, I set Decrypter to 1x read which worked. (thanks 6402 for passing that on).

OK, here's another one, I use AnyDvd with Shrink and have yet to find one it couldn't do with the exception of Ned Kelly which nothing could do.

Ummm...I'm watching my Ned Kelly backup right now. No special treatment, no problems whatsoever.

I've never found a problem that DVD Decrypter couldn't read at any speed.

It couldn't read Ned kelly at any speed. Doc, it seems there are different copies of ned kelly-some are OK, and some have file corruption in the vts_01_3 file. It plays but can't be copied.

Decrypter can of course copy all before and after, but not that one and it's right in the middle of the movie.

Yes! It handles ISO files beautifully, I've used it on a number of occasion.

    Doc

Back in my VCD and DiVx days smartripper was the only ripper I used, I didn't even consider Decrypter an alternative. A truly sad day was when its author chose to stop its development.

Ned Kelly is protected with a hard read error on the disc. It was a real pain. I made a backup -- but I've forgotten what I did to make it work.
