I'm looking to buy a plasma HD and i'll be playing a lot of PS3 on it. I don't understand much about television. I just want some advice for which tv to buy. it has to be $2000 or less.

No plasma is good for PS3. Get an LCD unless you like to have image burn in on your screen, which plasma suffers highly from.

how exactly does "burn-in" happen? Like if i leave on a game menu for a long time? Also i've heard that modern plasmas dont really have that problem anymore. In modern plasmas it happens when you leave a still image on the tv for a long time but now it goes a way after a short while.

So they say, but its a pile of crap. I bought one of these supposed "new technology" plasmas that are not supposed to have burn in. My wife was online downloading for about 1 hour and I had to deal with the browser window image ghosted into my screen for the next 5 days. Thats very annoying when you want to watch a movie. Also, don't let them tell you that you can get rid of it with whitewash or any other effect, because thats a load of crap also. I ended up returning it for an LCD, which not only did not have this problem, but also has a much better picture when watching movies.

sure you can, but thats not going to stop any frames, or scores or any other characters that are not moving in the game to burn into your screen while you are playing it.

At 40" I would go with Samsung from personal experience and value for money. You could probably pick up one of there 40" sets with 5000:1 contrast ratio for that price if you are in the US. Check out the Samsung LN-S4092D AWSOME TV!!

It was my mom basically. she says its a waste of money and that the money would be better put to use to buy her a stove. My dad always listens to her.

    Anyways

Yes, I agree Samsung is the way to go. Cheaper than Sony, & almost the same picture quality , sometimes even better.
