I have a NEC 3500AG burner and I am trying to burn a data 8X DVD-R (Ritec-05). It is taking me about 26 minutes to burn one full disk (DVD-5 Disk) even though I set the burning speed at 8X.

    My computer is as follows:
    Windows XP SP2
    512 DDR Ram
    40 Gigabyte HD 7200 RPM

The quality of the burn seems to be fine. But it's just taking a godawful long time. I have the hard
set at DMA mode. The DVD drive is right now set at PIO mode and it doesn't seem to be able to set to DMA mode despite setting the setting as "DMA if possible".

Search this forum for DMA PIO MODE and you will get a very detailed explanation of what you need to do.

    Welcome.

    Try this:

    Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.
