widescreen tv broadcast

    I have a GoodmansGDVDR320HDMI DVD recorder trying to figure out why when a Tv programme is broadcast in wide screen (i assume 16:9) that my DVD recorder records it in 720x576 4:3.
    anyone know if this can be changed and if so how ?

    It should however play it back (on the same recorder) correctly.
    To play it with the correct AR on a different machine, either adjust with the picture settings on the TV else it has to be ripped to the HDD and the aspect ratio flag changed using the likes of IfoAR2WS.
