PROBLEM SOLVED ...so i just went ahead and did a fresh install of home premium 32-bit. Popped out a stick of RAM becaused vista 32 only supports 4gb..and voila..installed all kinds of stuff..been on it for hours and nothing! P.S. Are all versions of windows vista on one disc? I would also like to thanks sammorris and all the other people who contributed. Thanks!
i did but it was only for about 10 minutes because i think i forgot to mention that this build was for someone else not me...thats why i havent been able to try everything..but i was reading on some other forums that people were having compatibility issues with the 9600 and 64 bit...do you know about the vista disc?
As it happens, Geforce graphics cards do have problems with 64-bit drivers. I'd forgotten all about that, that could well have been the problem all along... <slaps head>
oo i see..i mainly got it because it had a nice selection of outputs on the back.. i might be doing another build with roughly the same specs. what motherboard would you recommend instead?
This is probably the best equivalent board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128360 and the best boards for Phenoms in general are these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128373 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128075 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128352
so gigabyte board..never thought they were any good but if you are recommending them i will stick with it..so basically if i want to stay in a decent price range with a good board go witha a gigabyte?
Basically yes. For the last couple of years Gigabyte have been surpassing Asus in sales rates as you can buy a cheap gigabyte board that won't fail on you in a matter of months. With Asus, that's proving increasingly difficult, as many here have found out through personal experience.
No, you buy the version you pay for. I think there might be some option to install the downgraded version of the OS you buy (e.g. Home Premium if you bought the Ultimate disc) but you certainly won't find the 64-bit version of Vista on the 32-bit disc, and vice versa.
Actually the 32bit vista disc has all 32bit versions on it you get what your serial number entitles you to, we use copies of the disc (having given away two accidently)and one disc does basic premium and ultimate have seperate discs for business but not needed them yet if you load without putting the serial in you may find that it's limited time and then you'll have to reinstall
