I just installed latest version of Winamp. When executing the program it takes a good ten to fifteen seconds to start. Once started, there are between three to five Winamp.exe's in the process list. (They vary each time.) Anybody else have this problem or recommend a better music player? (Other than Winamp and Windows Media Player.)

    Thanks

Dont have that problem. Now do you want a music player or cd recorder? VLC works ok(used to for me but now its kinda messed up but I thinks its my OS) but its only for playing and streaming.

winamp aint the siple program it once was AOL has bloated it to much.
Foobar is better but is fickle about litely corrupted mp3s.

someone needs to make a MP3 error checker *L*

Thanks a lot. Foobar doesn't have a very nice GUI but it works a lot better than Winamp. I couldn't even load my entire library of about 5,000 songs into the Winamp playlist without it crashing.

Yeah Zippy Winamp used to rock and work great years ago. Thanks for the player recommendation. :)

Foobar is more innovative than Winamp, winamp kinda died after AOL took over and has lived on it name thus far,Foobar has a normalizing thing in it it reads the MP3 makes a note of how loud it is and runs on the fly normalization its still not 100% but its nice plus it has a neat list makeing system its like multi tab lists and 3 clicks to copy a MP3 to another list.

the only down side they hid the volume controls and its fickle with corrupted MP3s that paly find on WMP or winamp.

Foobar is something to check out.

I never had any problems with winamp, and i currently have 7700 songs in there.
Then again, i'm using pro... maybe there's a difference.
As for the bloat zippy mentioned, you can choose not to install the silly visualizations and other pointless cr@p @ the install screen, so...
I personally like iTunes a lot as well, but the one thing i hate about it is the lack of alternative codec support.
No .FLAC, no .OGG, no Monkey...
And the lack of support for other mp3 players.

I can't agree with you zip, there's just too many good plugins for winamp that i can't do without.
Besides, winamp plays my music, wakes me up in time for work, maintains my playlists, plays my retro game soundtracks, and updates my Creative Zen Touch...
What more could i possibly want? :)

It has "calculate replay gain" which (i think) normalises volume.
Anyone care to either agree or correct me on this? not sure.
