so but is there any scratches on the topside of the disk? at what point does it fail, before or after the networking or during the 39 minutes of installing the software?
we are trying to help you as we are trying to see what is causing the problem at that point!!! are you doing an upgrade onto 98 or full blown install?? remove your ram & take a pencil eraser to the gold contacts of the memory stick(s)to remove the tarnish on them. you'll see what i mean when you see the gold change color. is your video onboard or a card & if a card, how much ram is assigned to the video??
do what i suggested about the ram cleaning. also try to get more ram for your system, probably using pc133 sdram that has 2 notches on the bottom or pc2100 ddr ram that has 1 notch on the bottom. hopefully not using rambus ram as hard to find & i think more expensive than the other 2 types of ram. can you try another copy or another rom drive? remove all cards except videcard before trying to load xp.
Looking this thread -> Can you use Edit Post function? (it is that thing somewhere in this site, maybe) Or do you just enjoy that Reply button so much? -I did not mean to say it that (bad) way...
use this link so can get xp updates. it works as i've used it a few times. update your drivers from the chipset manufacturers not board manufacturers or microsoft. http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/28/microsoft_genuine_ad.html
