I recently purchased a laptop on ebay. It did not come with an OS loaded. There is a Certificate of authenticity for xp pro sticker on it. Shouldn't I be able to load my version of xp pro on it, and use the key on the certificate of authenticity??

No, because that certificate does not belong to your disk and therefore has a different code on it from the one on your disk. ..It's like when you're logging into this forum. You enter your name, but someone elses password. It's not going to work.
