i installed WMP 11 and now it just dont load, no error message or nothing, just dont load, when i try to open a vid, the mouse turns to the busy icon for a sec, but still nothing happens

im running AVG free, zonealarm, and prevx1, could one of these cause WMP not to load?

    thanks

short answer no, as for pevx i can't say as i don't have it installed.
I'd start by going to add/remove in xp delete media player 11 then in the left column look for "add/remove windows components" untick "media player" and apply, next download ccleaner delete any registry values of known uninstalled software, any entries you do not recognise leave them, download any updates from microsoft update, defrag the comp and restart, then attempt reinstall of media player 11 it's 50/50 if it works or not, failing that delete it run ccleaner then install mp9 and see if it works,if still no luck forget mp9,10,11 and get winamp and you can get free skins from wincustomise

if that doesnt work you probably have a virus and spyware problem

run "SmithfraudFix" and post a log file and HJT

plus run "Spysweeper" in safe mode and let us know what you come up with

Neither of those programs would cause WMP no to load a file unless they are infected. Even then, it's be a rare case.

Those can be deleted also, you have a choice to backup your registry so if anything goes wrong you can rollback.

That isn't necessary unless he knows for sure he has desktop malware.

You didn't read the post. He means using Ccleaner.

I don't think that is the problem but hey, it's worth a try. Download and install it, it's free for life.

Open it and run the cleaner and the issues fix(really a registry cleaner). When you are prompted to back up your registry, do so.

Do what aabbccdd said, post a HijackThis log, let's see if there are infections. Although, don't run SmitFraudFix, it isn't necessary. You would know if you had desktop malware.

    Edited.

    Think I found your solution.

First, do a system restore incase something goes wrong. To do this, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. At welcome screen click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. Restore to yesterday.

Now, open Notepad and copy all the bold text into it.

    [bold]REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{f414c260-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb58}\InprocServer32]
    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\jscript.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="Both"[/bold]

Save it to your desktop and name it "Jscript.reg" (with quotes)
Now, close Notepad and double click the new file Jscript.reg.
You will recieve a prompt asking "do you want to merge", click Yes.

Does it work now? If not, let me know and I'll tell you how to add that dll file with your recovery disc.

Damn, check them back. Go to Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows components. I can't say what was check on yours but, on mine the following are checked.

    Accessories and Utilites
    Internet Explorer
    MSN Explorer
    Network Services
    Outlook Express
    Update Root Certificates
    Windows Digital Media Enhancements
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Messenger

    Hope that helps.

    Holy sh*t! That sucks!

No, you'll need the recovery disc. Call you computer manufacture and request a recovery disc. Note: you may have to pay for it.

Sorry man, I know it's too late now but, shouldn't have took that advice as you had already tried uninstalling WMP.

Well, you won't need the reg file now, so let us know how things go when you call 'em or if you need any help repairing.

Yes, it just has to be version and computer manufacture compatiable. Such as Home recovery for Home edition, Pro recovery for Pro edition, ect. And, Dell for Dell computer, HP for HP computers, ect. Good luck!

Doesn't come in 'versions', it comes as-is. It is just the installation disc which has all Windows' files on it. Just called a 'recovery disc' cause it is made to recover and repair Windows from major errors.

Edit: damn, I can't type today.
