I have windows vista ultimate and I want to change to xp, but my computer won't let me install xp cuz the computer don't read the installation cd.

I'm using my old windows xp disc that came with dell when I purchase.

It sounds like you're not using a retail Windows XP disc. The disc that came with your Dell computer is most likely a restore disc, which is designed specifically for Dell hardware. You'll need a retail disc of XP to perform the installation.

Is the computer you're trying to downgrade the one that the install disc came with? If not, like silk said, you can't do it, you'll need an actual XP disc. If it is the same one, make sure that your computer is set to try to boot from CD (under CMOS).
