windows xp is installing extremely slow

    windows xp is installing extremely slow on my new computer which has 4gb of ram 512mb video 3.4ghz dual core any ideas?

    Remove 2GB of the memory and start again. XP will not fully recognize 4GB of memory...though it's allocated by the system's BIOS...it might be what's causing the issue. Unfortunately, it's a waste of money getting 4GB for XP.

    You didn't say how you were installing it. If you are just trying to run setup from the I386 directory you may not have smartdrv.exe running, which will slow the install down considerably. If you boot from the XP CD that isn't an issue, only if you boot from a boot floppy or boot cd other than the XP CD.

    i am booting from the xp cd its seems to be faster now
