WMM sees MPEG video as audio?

I'm having problems with WMM. I tried to drag an MPEG video down to the timeline and it would only let me put it in the audio slot, not the video slot.

The video plays fine in Windows Media Player. I downloaded GSpot for MPEG and it said the codec for the video was installed.

The thing is, we had to reinstall Windows XP last week because our harddrive died. And before that I wasn't having any problems, but now all the videos that used to work fine are only working as audio in WMM.

Can anyone think of a reason why this would be happening and how I can fix it? Please?

I reinstalled all the programs I use. I can't think of any that I didn't reinstall.

So did this happen to just one mpeg, all mpegs, or all video clips?

All mpegs. I asked at the microsoft newgroup and they said that WMM won't work with mpeg-2, but I checked and all mine are mpeg-1 and they said that those should work.

O.K., try download and install K-Lite Codec Pack (full or mega version). It also comes with Media Player Classic which can practically play all video formats.
