wmp wont play dvd

    I had same prob. as rayden54 with power dvd dx. read his threads+replys, followed advice given, uninstalled dvd dx.wmp wont now play dvd's(cd's ok)1st said i need codec. Now wmp just goes off after about 2 secs. tried to down load mpc+vlc but doesent install.I have vista basic+novice with computers

    thanx. dont kno if compatable, cant d/load anyway. pop up says current security wont allow d/load. same with vista codec package v4.6.4

    Did you tru to click or right click on that pop-up to allow download?

    FFDSHOW works on Vista. Download that, configure it and you should be okay.

    going to try d/load FFDSHOW.you told me about,but do i need to do the video+audio configuration as well?

    Yes, make sure the codecs are not set to "disabled" for whatever videos you will be playing. Most of the popular codecs come enabled by default.

    not d/loaded yet, had a problem with permanant black screen when switching pc on. see if problem occurs again in the morning.

    I hate those "death screens"!!! I had one a couple of weeks ago after installin/un-installing crap and trying to system restore it. Windows wouldn't boot!
    I had to boot up with the Windows CD and do some fixing!

    i tried vista cd with black screen but nothing works. managed to use restore, but haven't shutdown, put to sleep when not in use, it's ok when come to use again.going to shutdown overnight an see what like am.untill i get it sorted not d/loading anything,no point if pc wont boot.

    dvd's play now. got dell to install wmpc but put back that powerdvd dx shite though.
