cool, Dell confirmed what i thought.

    you need 4x discs.

re ps2 tutorial - see what you can find in guides section at top of page

ok, bearing in mind you can only use 4x +R discs i would recommend taiyo yuden - you have to be very careful to buy genuine Taiyo Yuden's (TY) - my buddy kivory666 is an expert on TY discs, you should search some of his posts in this forum - http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/47. In fact i'll ask him to join the thread also...

Also look out for these - Verbatim [bold]Datalifeplus[/bold]

    ie -
    Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R 4x (MCC.....002)
    Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R 4x Pastel (YUDEN000-T01-000)

(the code in brackets is the media code)..

    - to be perfectly honest, this kind of question is addressed very often in the above forum, and also it might well be time to get a new burner (hint, hint) :)

    - ps don't forget my previous suggestion on page 1 about updating your burner to what would in effect be an NEC 1300A which would give you 4x on -R discs also..

    - ps look in the PS2 forums for your tutorials if it's not in the guides, there's a lot of people in the forums whose posts you can search....

about the firmware you told me to update, that lets me burn to -R?
Dell couldnt event tell me what the firmware did XD
is the dvd code written on the case, spindel, etc?

the firmware update would give you 4x on -R discs , then you have a choice of using 4x +R discs AND 4x -R discs...

    hi there...~

well, hmm...lemme start off by stating that #1, i would suggest it's time for a new burner~ i have the somewhat more recent nec 3520a (the 3540 is the MOST recent i think ) and it's been working a charm for me in regards to the newer media out right now, naturally, i STICK with good quality media, but, your burner is somewhat out of date...if upgrading your burner is NOT feasible/practical at this time for you, then i will have to suggest BETTER 4x dvd+r media...of which, even i have NOT used any Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd+r media in my thousands of burns :) i think you will be very hard pressed to even FIND the 4x dvd+r Taiyo Yudens from a [bold]reputable [/bold] online source. you would have to worry about if they are genuine or fakes, as more commonly found is the 4x dvd-r that supermediastore, rima, and meritline ALL carry~ :) i have thousands of these, they work just fine...TYGO1 coding.

i guess if you want to stick it out with your current burner, my next recommendation STRICTLY for 4x dvd+r media would be :

Verbatim (DataLife) DVD+R 4.7GB RICOHJPNR01 4x (yeah, you guessed it...verbatim datalife just as my buddy creaky suggested)

Verbatim (DataLifePlus) DVD+R 4.7GB MCC.....002 4x (seemingly, as long as you get the datalifeplus ones...you should be ok)

or one that could be easier to find IN STORES here in the U.S. if you look hard enough :

Verbatim DigitalMovie DVD+R 4.7GB MCC.....002 4x (these are rated 4x and have the "movie reel" look on them)

well, that's about all i would even RECOMMEND in the 4x dvd+r format...the easiest way to resolve your burning issues would be to consider getting a new burner...nec drives are very solid and well built, mine is still going strong and i use the official nec firmware w/ no issues. :) i also use the pioneer dvr-109, but, pioneers do not offer the ability to booktype dvd+r to dvd-rom without HACKED firmware...

and like my buddy creaky, i have my trusty ole' Sony dru-710a, many people have had problems with this as i've helped about a 1/2 dozen people just last week with this drive, BUT, if you get a "good batch", i've had mine for over a year and it's still very reliable.

if you have the money, the Plextor is regarded as the "king of burners" or the "caddy" or "top dog" or the "big kahuna" you probably get my drift... :) it's more expensive, approx. $130 for retail kit, BUT, it's one of the best of the best burners out there. i have yet to own one, but, close trusted friends that i have that use it swear by it...as do MANY plextor users here on AD.~

as you can see, i am nudging you into getting a new burner...and those are my suggestions personally...i think this will solve a lot of your burning issues; but, as it goes with all people...now might not be the convenient time for your to purchase another burner, but, if you do decide to take that route...take my suggestions above and you should be good to go...especially if you go with one of the 3 burners that i own, i will always be willing to help if you have the same hardware as me~ :)

hope that is a good start...media recommendations are above if you insist on the 4x dvd+r format ONLY~ :) good luck

you can if you properly crossflashed your current drive w/ the new firmware...i don't think the official one from nec will cut it~ :)

seems like an unlucky pick on my part....
do you know of any media that is very very well known (avaible at best buy/futureshop) that is good?

    are Fujifilm dvds any good?

They say TDK are good, but they didnt work for me...

    ok, the problem was Nero
i used dvd decrypter to burn the ps2 .iso file onto the dvd
i put it in the ps2, it just says reading disc... and stays like that

so i pop it into the computer and it comes up with

    D is not accessible
The disk structure is corrupt or unreadable.

    bad media?
