hi i wonder if any whizz can help me. i copied a lot of files to cd using nero, and now, even though they have the word logo attached, they have a file ext of .max, and when i open them with word, it is nearly all gobbledygook, except for a few words that are clear, i have tried the different codes that word allows but to no avail many thanx in anticipation
were the original files *.doc because *.max is the file extension used by a program called paper point
Actualy it's paper port by visioneer. But you get the jest of what philraz is telling you. My friend was making the mistake of thinking because paperport claims to export to word doc. He could just save to word doc without having word on the computer. In order for paperport to convert to word doc he had to have word on the computer then inside paperport there appeared an icon to drag the scan document to and then it converts to word doc. I think notepad will open a .max file but depending on what the file was it might be missing some of the original.
Yup... Can also get a free viewer to view the max files here. http://www.nuance.com/paperport/viewers/
