I have been working on this for about a week now. I have searched and did not find much on this. I did upgrade the firmware from JWS5 to JWS6. I have also tried other media: Memorex, Verbatim and Sony. Nothing helped. memorex speed 8x size 3371mb total time 34:47 verbatim speed 16x size 3142mb total time 32:26 I did try to call Memorex tech, but there sys has been down now for a few day. So there is no help there for me. So I come to the true experts at Afterdawn for help. Below is a log for the Verbatim 16x burn. I can post other logs if you need to see them, I have 6 that I have saved. ---------------------- This is for the log below. It should have burned in about 4 or 5 minutes, should it not? verbatim speed 16x size 3142mb total time 32:26 ---------------------- Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0001), size=45056 bytes, created 8/14/2002 4:03:36 PM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero Version: 6.6.0.16 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 16b Recorder: <Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2>Version: JWS6 - HA 3 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 3 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <JLMS XJ-HD166S >Version: DGS3 - HA 3 TA 1 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 3 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y120L0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : JLMS XJ-HD166S atapi Port 3 ID 1 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM 2.7a Vax347s Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 D: CDRom0 JLMS XJ-HD166S E: CDRom1 SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM F: CDRom2 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 510MB (522988kB) Free physical memory: 66MB (67940kB) Memory in use : 87 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 29.9.2005 ISO compilation 2:55:42 PM #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6356 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 2:55:42 PM #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 2:55:42 PM #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 running 2:55:42 PM #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 2:55:42 PM #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 2:55:43 PM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 1608335 (357:24.35, 3141MB) 2:55:43 PM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 2:55:43 PM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: MCC, Media Type ID: 004, Product revision number: 0 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 7 2:55:43 PM #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 2:55:43 PM #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 1608336 (1608336) = #1608336/357:24.36 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 1608336 blocks [Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2] -------------------------------------------------------------- 2:55:43 PM #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; well you've come to the right place for proper help - i believe that's up to date.. - DMA needs to be ON, fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - what on earth's happened there, 512mb is sufficient but you've got virtually none free. coupled with DMA being OFF doesn't bode well for burns at all.. make sure to close down way more programs prior to any burns - very nice Verb 16x +R's there.. - good grief, i would not go that fast myself, even for data. and for movies no more than 4x Get the DMA sorted and make sure sufficient memory is available. Oh, and stay away from junk landfill Memorex media!, they use widely differing quality in disc manufacturers and it's a lottery as to what qulaity you pick up each time. One week it could be good stuff, the next it could be utter atrocious rubbish quality discs and you wouldn't know just by looking at the packaging...
DMA was ON on both Primary and Secondary Controlles. So I uninsalled them and rebooted. It worked, Im now burning at full speed. Thanks creaky for your fast reply and solution to my problem.
Cool, you're welcome, however don't underestimate bad media, I guarantee further problems otherwise. Tweak & burn
