I wrote some time back about problems with my DVD X Copy Platinum Software. Several fixes were offered, but I am still having problems.

The DVD is reading and I get past the writing stage, however when the computer states that it is finalizing an error message comes up that says there is an error writing the disk and to check the log file for further details.

    1. Version of Windows and service pack running?

    Windows XP Home Edition:
    Version 5.1 (2002) Service Pack 1

    2. Version of software using?

    DVD X Copy Platinum 4.0.3

    3. All reccommended software removals and disables on computer?

I removed and disabled the programs listed.

    4. Kind (make & model) of burner do you have?

    Memorex DVD+/-RW True 8x

    5. Kind of blank discs used?

    Memorex DVD-R: 4.7GB - 120 min. video 4x

    6. Have you ever updated the firmware for your burner?

    Not sure (Brand new burner)

I have owned this burner and software for over a year now and have been unable to get it work, so I am sure you can understand my frustrations. If you can help in any way I would be greatly, greatly appreciative!

Thank you for your time and assistance!

OK then here goes!.... go into C:Drive/program files/321studios folder/log folder.
Here is a list of all the burns that you have done with your x-copy.
I think the latest burn log is the one with the highest number. It is a good idea to clear out the log folder once a while.

Memorex do not make the best media. In fact, you would be hard pushed to find ANYONE on this site who recommend them.
You need to get the firmware for your burner installed. You should find them on the memorex website. Otherwise you may still have probs.
I have both the ripper & RF Platinum. I have had very little problems with either. DvdShrink & dvd decrypter do a good jod. I like my platinum. I would not recommend anyone to buy it though. This is there is NO support & online activation may not last for ever

If you check your log, look for the manufacturing code of those memorex -4x. It should also state your firmware #. Check out memorex's web site to find the latest firmware for your 8x burner.

Those are the most common problems.

Brand new burner? I got my benq 3 months ago and it works so good, that I won't update to the newest update.
I just bought an I/O magic 16x sunday, had trouble recognizing ritek-go4 media.I just updated the firmware a short while ago and those ritek's are now burning. Since you had it for over a year,if you changed anything with those memorex like: different spindle /quantity size/ and different places you bought them from, then those mfg codes will probably change.
Do you have any other different burning programs that you can try like nero or dvd decrypter?

You said it errors out at the finalizing stage. One thing you can try is reducing your backup target size. Uneven dye on the outer edge could be giving this error.I don't know about x-copy,but if you can set your backup target at 4300 to 4360 mbs, this may help.
    Good Luck

You need the log file from the 321 studios folder in the program file folder in your C drive.
The log file you have printed is your XP log file, NOT the platinum log file!!!!

The driver site you gave me is not operational. I went to the link, and clicked the download icon, but it doesn't do anything. Any suggestions?

I have been very lucky with all my x-copy products. This does not, however, excuse the blacklisted software list & all of the many, many woes that lots of people had with the software!! I like my Platinum it does what I want it to do, copy movies - no worries. It would not do RE Apocalypse without being run through decrypter first.
Again I would NOT recommend buying this software. It is WAY overpriced, especially as Shrink & nero do an excellent job with the minimum of fuss.
    Not the best buy.

    At all!

The log file is in the folder named "log" when you open up the platinum folder. It is a text document.

Copy & paste "Memorex DVD+/-RW True 8x Firmware" into google, then find a site that will give you what you want. You may have to do a little leg work, but it will be worth it!

Ok, I am downloading the Firmware from the Memorex site, (2nd link for Version 1). Also, I was told to remove Nero as that may also assist in helping the problem. If you can think of anything else, I would be greatly appreciative!
