Your Nero is really out of date, current version is 6.6.0.18 so you can see how old that is. Your firmware is also out of date here is current:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1913

    Is this external?

Your DMA is off, here is how you can fix it:

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver “for Win XP users”))

    A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
    B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
    C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
    E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
    F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers”

    (A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
    (B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
    (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

YOur using ritek, it use to be really good. Now I only see bad in them so try switching. I recommend Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Sony, Fuji and Maxell are fine if they are made in Japan.

You have INCD installed, I know it won't matter now since you aren't burning but it will once you start. So go to Nero's site and download Nero's Cleantool which will remove it completly from your system. Then reinstall Nero w/o INCD this time.

I uninstalled INCD and Nero. Installed Nero 7 Demo. I also uninstalled DVD43 and Pattin coufin and reinstalled them also. The ritek DVD's were bought a couple years ago and I have burned 100's of them with no problems. I am able to use DVD shrink to copy the DVD to my hard drive. I do not use ( LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161H atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off) this drive to copy or burn but will try turning on DMA anyway. It is still getting a SCSI error when I burned with Nero 7 demo ? Thanks alot for the quick reply earlier you guys are great !

i've edited out a couple occurrences of yuor serial number from the thread

    - firmware's still out of date

    - you still need to turn DMA ON

    - keep an eye on free memory prior to ALL dvd work/burning

    - is data small enough to fit on a disc ?

    - follow ALL suggestions

Which version of firmware do I need and where can I get it? I/O Magic did not have any drivers or firmare for the IDVD16DL at their website.
I couldn't find it at Microsft either.

IoMagic dont offer much if anything in the way of firmware updates. Thats so they can have an out if flashing goes wrong. From looking at your firmware version it points to the drive being btc which is what the link glueEater posted for you is. That is the newest firmware for the drive. But I say again if something goes wrong (not likely but could) they will then have an out to not comply with any waranty that they may offer.

That's why you use the link I gave you in my above post.

Kinda hurts my feelings when a guy like feldz23 comes along. Had to search for a while for his rebadged burner's f/w and he doesn't even take a second look at it. :(

Dont let those things get ya down. Just remember when a user has to weed through all the disclaimers and crap on a rebage companys site it can kinda toss a scare in them from the get go.

Well you probably gotta change somethings to have it apply to your case. Like the firmware and such.

I have updated my firmware as instructed, DMA is on. I have a 2 year old LG GSA-4120B 12X burner in an external enclosure and it works fine. I just bought the I/O Magic 16x IDVD16DL burner on sale as a backup. The I/O magic drive is the one I am getting the SCSI errors on. I installed the I/O Magic burner in the same external enclosure that I use for the LG. The LG is working fine but I can not get the I/O Magic to burn without getting SCSI errors. The I/O Magic works fine when I use DVD shrink to read the DVD. It just will not burn. Can it be a problem that the older external enclosure is not compatible with the new 16X I/O magic ? The external enclosure is model # PM-525U2-PCS IDE to USB 2.0. I even exchanged the I/O Magic for a new one at C.C. thinking it might be a problem with the burner and I am still getting the SCSI error.

OK guys i will jump in on this one. If you see a double post, the servers are acting up today. I even got an edit symbol on someone elses post WTF?? Later it went away. And i could only pm myself, not edit a post for a while.. Weird...., anyways here goes:
Vers 6x of Nero is now up to 6.6.0.18 and you [bold]need to update.[/bold] It's been said before, but you need to do it this time..:)
    http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php
    Install package 1 & 2 but not #3..

Your [bold]old[/bold] version of Nero is freaking out as it doesn't recognize your drive. The new version of nero should fix that. hint.. hint.. :)
The Nero upgrade might fix that. The ritek media you were using is ok.
You might try updating your system aspi. According to this you are at vers.4.60
    and here is vers 4.71.2
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm
and AD's guide on installing ASPI
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/aspisetup.cfm
I found the firmware for that LG drive you talked about, and it is up to A117.
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1841
I also read in another post saugmon had an I/O magic drive and said it was junk..
    thread that came from: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/274913
The enclosure you are talking about might be a problem also. Depends on the type of cable it uses. I would go with firewire or USB 2 if using an external. If using USB, don't have anything else plugged in to the other USB ports when burning. Or, you could get a new drive. Hate to suggest that, but older drives can only go so far with firmware updates.
That one should work for a while, but im not sure if it is a DL burner, and those can be nice on large movies, if you want the extras too. I only go 8x max on a DVD burn, so the 12x max wouldn't be a problem.
