    hey there fellas,

i have recently changed my dvd writer to an Optiarc AD-7170A and now my xBox won't seem to read anything it's burning. i'm using all the same software as before when it DID work, however nothing!

i've tried using different media and burning at a lower speed, neither seems to be working.

my xBox dvd drive is a Samsung SDG-6058 with the 'x010' firmware.

does anyone know how to solve this problem?

    thanks!

I have never even heard of that brand of DVD drive?
is the firmware up to date on the PC DVD writer (even fresh out of the box it can be outdated if the drive was made 6 months or more ago)
does it burn anything correctly at all, like other than game back ups?

yeah, the firmware is up to date on the DVD writer. it works fine, just can't be read on the xBox.

what brands and speeds are the media you are tring to use?
What program are you burning them with?
What speed are you burning them at?
what games have you tried backing up?

It could just be that the burner you bought is not going to back up games well.

    - 16x RiData DVD+R
    - Ashampoo Burning Studio and/or Nero Ultra v7
    - 16x or 8x
    - None

you know what? i found the solution. it's the DVD drive itself. see...the old Samsung drives seem to have problems with DVD+R media. i have another modded box in my house and popped one of those unreadable discs in there...well? it worked fine. that drive was a Phillips.

so, i've concluded that the problem is the Samsung DVD drive and not the burning software and not the media. the drive simply can't read those discs...probably could if there was a firmware update, but since there is none that i'm aware of...then no.

    thanks for your help!
