xbox how to backup so i can put a new hard drive in my xbox

i read one of the xbox guides and it told me to make a backup off my softmod thats what i got but it said to go in my launch menu and go to apps well the back up is not in my apps it is in my system utils and it said to make a backup of c and f in my c i got phoenix in my f there aint shit so if any one could tell me how to do it i would be very thank full oh ya one other thing i wanted to know say if i fusk it up and it does not work put i still have the files on my coputer would it mess up my xbox up where i would not be able to use it please tell me that first
