you're here telling me how to play dvd's, and that doesn't help me, because this thread isnt about dvd's- it's about playing non-dvd, mpg, avi, and wmv videos on an xbox. If there's a dvd player that can play wmv and avi, let me know... if xbox can, let me know.

i just don't think you've read this entire thread, so you're sorta behind on what we're talking about-

dude, i usually don't do this...but let me be as civil as possible.

to clarify, i have read the entire thread and i was among the members here who gave their replies early. i edited my post but you had to go and rant your ass off. i know you're asking us to come up w/ something that can satisfy your need to play wmv, mpegs, etc. LEGALLY. so far, all the responses here have been correct (daskins, joles, etc.)that you have to have 3rd party software for that. even so, the existing apps have limitations. maybe something will come up in the future (even from microsoft itself), who knows. this has been going on for so long, that YOU JUST DON'T GET IT. all we've been doing is trying to help out whenever we can, but it seems all you've been doing is just for the sake of being able to debate or prove you're a smartass.

go ahead and do what you want and probably prove us wrong one of these days by coming up w/ an app that not only does what you want it to do, but LEGALLY.

i would expect you to come up with a repartee on this one (you've got a lot of time on your hands, dude), but don't bother as i won't give the time of day stooping down to your level. PEACE

alas, i'm quite offended by your last post. i will not discuss your posts anymore.

Just so you know, I still haven't had my question answered, about being able to play alternate video formats on the xbox- this whole thread has been on-topic- we've been saying this and that is illegal, YES, people have said it's probably not legal to play media on the xbox, but I'm just trying to keep the thread alive without saying "bump"!
Hereby, i do declare I believe this is not your forum, alas, so don't you think you should let me talk as much as i want as long as i'm not being rude?

i know it is possible to play this other media on a dvd player. i dont know which models but a lot of high end models have this capability. You should look into it.

yeah, those dvd players sound interesting- and if i wanted to take a wmv cd-r to a friend's house without a pc, he could just buy a dvd player that plays wmv and whatnot. he already has an xbox, so that's why i sorta wish you know, someone knew a legal free way. it's all about the bios, or something, but you know- if microsoft had made a pre-equipped media player built into the xbox, that'd have been quite ill, yo. lol.

as far as i've browsed, i can't find a physical dvd player (as opposed to software players) that plays cd-r's with wmVideo. maybe wmAudio, but not vids. I found a thread url=http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=177148 that gives me a slight vibe that people who are jealous of others' success would rather not have media-diversity, than support a billionaire.

Burn the cd using Nero Burning ROM and select Video CD. Nero should convert the WMV to a Video CD Format (.dat). I havent tested with a WMV but i know it converts MPGs. If nero doesnt convert it just look for a WMV to Video CD format conerter.

Once it is in VCD format it should work on any dvd player that plays cdr.

It may even work on an unmodded xbox, but im not sure about that

    Cheers

well what lcarbutt said is correct basically modding is all legal until you get to the part and flash with hacked bios although installing linux is not illigal.

um... lcarbutt says flashing the bios is legal-
    daskins says it's illegal.
lcarbutt thinks i'm a smacktard, and i think he's an unreliable xbox legality source.
Thankyou, Daskins... Looks like i can have a chip in the xbox, but it'll be illegal to tell the xbox what to do?
    (what is "flashing")

no i said flashing you chip with hacked bios is illegal, but flashing linux on it is not.

flashing is the process of putting bios on your chip that tell it what to do. (play back-ups whatever etc...)

you can buy pre flashed modchips. They come with cromwell linux. This is how they are sold legally. You can then follow previous instructions for purchasing software for a linux system to play your movies.
