i soft modded my xbox and i had avalaunch as well as xbmc and they were working great. i was able to play burned games, download movies and music, connect to the internet- everything was working nice, and after a week or so i wasn't able to get on xbox live, so while trying to fix that problem i somehow made it to where the xbox would try to go straight to ms dashboard on loadup, of course i dont have ms dashboard so it would automatically start blinking red and give me a message of error in a whole bunch of different languages. Is there anyway i can somehow reset my xbox or fix it??? thanx guys

do ftp or plug up the hard drive to the pc and place all the data were it should be but ill go with the ftp if i was you follow the link Mik3h gave you good luck and dont worry every think is repair able
i, unknowingly, unlocked my hd through configmagic- big mistake. i definitely dont have a modchip and i definitely cant get past the error 5 display everytime i turn on the xbox... what do i do guys??? thanks
When you turn it on to the modded dashboard "if that loads" try running configmagic again. But If you can't get to that, you will have to "lock" your HDD. Have a look at this thread, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/407140 And near the bottom, it will tell you how to re-lock your HDD. -Mike
i wish i could get to configmagic but i have not been able to get past the error 5 page. i wouldn't want to take my xbox apart unless i absolutely have to. i can tell that it tries to read a cd or dvd before it goes on to give me the error page, do you think i could probably just stick a particular cd in there that would override the error page and give me the option to lock my hdd back up? or just let me remodify my xbox? if so what cd would that have to be? thanx

yea thats the thing, the games don't boot up. i still get the error five page but after a short delay which tells me it is at least trying to read the disk.

It would actually just be easier to try cleaning the disk and try booting up a few times, the same thing happened to me but not error 5 i just got error 21. When the disk attempts to boot, but can't read the disk because it is scratched or dirty it will want to boot to its default dash, which according to you stopped being the new dash and wanted the missing MS dashboard which was deleted so it has nothing better to do than scare people. That's all I can think of so good luck
Firstly I softmodded my xbox, did everything exactly as the tutorial said, I could play dvds without the dongle,music and original games but not copied ones. I must have done something wrong to the xbox. The problem Im having is when I boot up the xbox, its loads the dashboard for a split second and then jumps straight to the error 21 screen. HELP!!!! PLEASE!!! Ive tried using slayers, x-disk and auto installer deluxe. Ive tried burning dvd and cdrw of all of these but to no avail. Ive even loaded up splinter cell, got into softmod installing software and as soon as it loads up, it resets the game, so I cannot access the FTP and cannot restore to ms backup. I didnt save the ms backup on my pc...Its on the xbox hard drive in the E drive. Any suggestions welcome..PLEASE HELP ME!!! This is my first attempt..I thought I had it right. Thanks

ive already solve the problem. all i did is, before sid3 loads up the ip, i use the pc which has a dual network on the gigabyte motherboard which ive connect to the xb(ftp)from the NIC then grab the ms and the eeprom and used them. what ive done is restored it manualy and delete most of the apps and stuff except the ms and eeprom, then swap the files over...restart and its back to normal. I installed sid4 and removed the softmod that was partly still in the hd then, backed up the ms and eeprom then saved it on a cd. after all, booooom it worked and i can play anything from copied games to anything els. ive found out that the sid3 that ive download had a fault when i tranfer it to the other pc as all pc running on network via router and even when im downloading films etc it loses bits of files, that what i thought. my m8 had the same sid3 and it didnt worked to, so i found out its a faulty software where we download it from. thanks for your help anyway
