XP on a 64 bit system

    My netbook has a 64bit system and Windows7 OS

    Having some problems loading some older programs-can I put XP on a 64bit sy

    yes as long as you can find the xp drivers for the netbook.

    So the drivers would not already be on the Windows XP installation disk?

    not always especially if netbook came with win7. i had to reload a customer's netbook that came with xp sp3 pre-installed with vista as she did not make recovery disk(s) of her xp. had a hell of a time to find her web cam driver as that laptop came with xp or win7 but not vista, found the driver for it tho.

    thanks, I went to Gateway's website and they seem to have some drivers for XP just hope I can find the right ones for my netbook. Should have bought a netbook with XP already on it. I didn't know I would have so many problems with Windows 7. I couldn't even get Skype to install correctly. Other program it didn't like is Daemon Tools(virtual CD drive program) thanks again, Roy

    I haven't had any problems with DAEMONTools or Skype in Win7, not in the 64-bit version anyway. DAEMONTools says it's incompatible but I haven't had any problems using it.

    I have a week and will still be able to return this netbook. Want to see if I can get these programs to load. I can't even get Skype and Daemon Tools to install correctly. I put the installer program on a flash drive and then transfer it to my netbook and then try to install the program but for some reason it doesn't like my computer. Thought of trying a crossover ethernet cable and see if I will have better luck that way.

    That is weird; I can also confirm that both of those apps (latest versions) work perfectly with Win7x64. I know windows bitches when you install daemon tools lite, but just ignore that...it works perfectly fine; you don't even need to restart.


    Oh, you did turn of UAC and restart before trying the installs?

    What is UAC? I did finally get Skype to load but had to go and download directly to my netbook from website for it to work. I am still having problems with Daemon Tools but I may and try re-downloading that one to see if it will work. Funny has no problems loading on my Dell with XP.

    UAC is UserAuthorizationControl. a popup shows on screen when you are attempting to run or install a program. can turn it off in the user account panel in control panel.

    I run xp in unity mode on my win7 64bit system
    loaded xp with vmware
    that way get the best of both worlds
