xp video to vista video

    how can i get my videos that came from windows xp to play with windows vista? Like online trailers it tells me i need Media Player but i have the latest version of it. Is there a software that will play the videos on vista? On my xp computer VLC player would play almost any kind of video but now on vista it doesnt do anything with those videos. thanks for any help
