model DRU-510a sounds like it does not spin even though the orange light comes on like it is reading the disc, but it never does.

Hi there mr85cat, welcome to aD,

Are you saying it doesn't play Original DVD discs, backups or what ?

    Has it ever worked ?

How about expounding upon your post so we have something, anything to work with -

    Pete

Expounding on it, I would say (I am not sure you read it...) from the TITLE of this thread, it won't read ANY discs.....

Oohh gee, I'm so very sorry sir for being so extremely stupid and not understanding completely from the beginning exactly what the problem was -

Since you won't tell me if it has ever worked OR if this is something new I suppose I have to guess -

    If it never worked:

    Is it external ?
    USB ? Firewire ?

Did you check the USB / Firewire wire to see if it's good ?

Did you check another USB / Firewire port ?

Have you tried it in another PC ?

Does it show up in Device manager ?

Does it say it's operating properly ?

    Is it internal ?

Are you sure the IDE Cable is firmly connected ?

Are the jumpers set to Master ?

Is it on a secondary IDE cable ?

Did you set it to your region ?

Have you installed an ASPI layer ?

What did you set the jumpers too ?

OK, If it just started this after working for some time properly ?

Naaaahhh, too much guessing for me - Putting answers to all of those different scenarios PLUS more to boot - it's just too much time and work and I don't have near enough spare time to waste doing this.

Tell you what, take it back (if it's new) and exchange it OR if it's not new, shop for a new DL burner and have their tech support guess their way through it with you - I'm not paid near enough -

(and me being so nice and welcoming him to aD - )

And THANKS FOR THE ATTITUDE !
