I have downloaded Nero 7.7.5.1 for installation on Vista RC1 build 5600. I used md5sums to check the checksum after downloading and it was fine. But the install will only unpack the cab files and then stops executing and closes. The machine is a p4 3ghz with 1 gb ram. I am working with a 3 day old clean Vista install on a new WD 250 gb drive. Does anyone have anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for that Gwendolin, and i apologise for not searching properly before posting. I had read your second suggestion already, but i did not read the worm thread until after posting, and it in fact had the answer. I will confess now that i had tried to install and earlier version unsuccessfully, but cecause i had used windows restore to go back to a prior restore point, i thought i had gone back in time. Alas no, windows restore only fiddles with the registry. So i used the nero clean tool and all was well. Thanks again to you, and to joedrumma for his "side trip" post.
