I have on my hard drive a Video_TS folder which is less than 4.3 gigs.

    I also have Roxio Toast.

How do I used Roxio Toast so that I can burn a Video DVD identically to the original DVD (menus and all)? Do I drag the files over "Video DVD", do I drag them over "Data DVD" or what?

Data tab. DVD-ROM (UDF) option. Press new disc, name it as
you want, drag the VIDEO_TS folder, create a new folder
named AUDIO_TS and press the big red button.

    This does not work.

Oddly enough, if I create a disc image, and I mount the disc image, my Macintosh will read it as if it is a Video DVD. However, when I burn it (directly from Toast, I haven't tried burning from the image yet) neither my Mac or my DVD player (Playstation 2-- it works with DVD+R, so I'm pretty sure it works with DVD-R) will read it.

More Data: Burning from the disc image produces the same thing as buring directly in Toast.

It is odd - when Toast mounts the disc image, the DVD icon shows up on the desktop, DVD Player launches, and the movie starts to play. But when I actually *burn* the disc, it doesn't play. Yes, DVD Player does start up, but it doesn't play the disk.

    Use quality DVD-R media.

    I'm using Memorex DVD-RW media. It's 2x, and in a ten pack.

If your OS is Panther DVDPlayer will not recognize those disks. You get a "not permitted" message when trying to play them.

You can also try to read the threads in this forum before posting a question that has already been answered.

My OS *is* Panther, but I am not getting a "Not Permitted" error when trying to read the discs. The other forum topic does not apply.

"Yes, DVD Player does start up, but it doesn't play the disk"

Can you tell me what happens if you press play??

If you read that thread you will find out what the problem is.
    It's up to you.

When I press play, nothing happens. I mean that literally. There is no change in the status of the screen, no video, no error message.

The DVD-RW from Memorex might be the problem, I'll try again, and reformat for Data.

I got a ($5) disc from Apple. Works perfectly. Odd, because the Memorex seems fine for data.

Thank you, it turns out that thread DID have the solution to my problem, even if it wasn't my exact problem.

You can get cheaper disks that are as well very high quality.
Look out for Ritek (purple top), Ridata or Traxdata. All of
them are produced by Ritek (Taiwan) using their top quality
G04 dye. You should be able to get them for about $1.
And remember to stick to DVD-R format for video.

Be careful of the PS2...I noticed that at first it would play a dvd backup, but then subsequent times, it wouldn't. The ps2 is not as robust a player as just a normal, standalone unit.

I'm not as worried about the PS2 - I don't play many games, and indeed, was thinking about selling them off when the unit eventually goes kerplui. On the other hand, it's a good "test' bed to see if the disc burned correctly.
