    Hi Gretta,

Do you think you could provide a bit more information ?

What are your PC's specs ?

What steps are you taking prior to receiving your errors ?

EXACTLY what does the error say ?

Do you have a RF version of XCopy or a ripper version ?

Have you tried any other programs ?

    Which ones ?

Let's get answers for all of the questions so we know where to start -

    Cheers,

    Pete

ok another thing i thought i should tell you

the drive i usually put the movies in I tried to look at one and i got this message in real player:
The DVD cannot be played. Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed.
and this messagein windows media: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection.

what is going on? does this have anything to do with the windows sercutiry pack 2?

    Hi Gretta,

Actually it does. The new Win Media Player tries to control everyhting.

You can try going to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, DVD/CD ROM Drives. Right-click on your Drives and select "Uninstall". Then "OK" out of everything and reboot your PC. When you begin to boot up again, your PC should find your drives and reinstall them. Hopefully they'll be fine.

Me, I just uninstalled the SP2 and I'll wait until they have the bugs out if it for a while -

Now what we'll do for now is hook you up with a good copy system (much better than XCopy and once you're set up, easier and if you don't mind spending time, a far superior backup.

You're 1/2 way there with DVD Shrink - follow this guide (about 1/2 of the way down the page) and you'll be backing up DVD's in 20 minutes -

Remember to stop back and tell me how you made out -

Hey, hey, No crying around here.

We've all hit a wall using XCopy at one time or another - consider this your time -

Now is the time to use the guide at the end of my last post and use better proggys to do your work -

Off you go now and use that guide :)

    Gretta,

You should be able to do that through - Control Panel, Add / Remove proggys, Add/ Remove Windows components. OR just go to System Restore and jump back before you installed SP2.

AFA, using my guide, PRINT IT OUT and follow it step by step, All the settings are there and it should work fine - You won't "SEE" DVD Decrypter open, it will just burn and when it's finished, you'll hear it's little tune play :)

Look back in the "Backup" window, the address where you sent the file is still there :)

At the very end I told you, at the "Select target image file", Browse till you find your created folder for your backup, Then click "Save", then "OK" and you were done. PRINT OUT THE GUIDE so you don't miss any steps.

To insure you don't have any more trouble, go to msconfig, Startup, "Click" Disable all, Ok, then Ok again to reboot the computer. Remember, DO NOT TOUCH THE PC WHILE IT'S WORKING. It needs 100% of it's resources to do your work. Trying to "multi-task will ruin your backup job.

    andy248,

I'm not sure but I think you're talking about CloneDVD 2. It may be all well and good to suggest programs BUT that program can't operate on it's own. It requires something like AnyDVD to rip the program before it can be used.

My point ? Not everyone that comes here has the $70.00 (USD) or more to go purchase 2 programs when there are others that do it better and are FREE. AnyDVD doesn't always rip the DVD well enough so that ColoneDVD can use it AND it's quality isn't as good as DVD Shrink when used with Deep Analysis and Quality Enhancement.

Please check your PM mail, thanks
