See DVD but doesn't see blank DVD

    I have a MacG4, just upgraded to OS X 10.3.8. I can put a blank cd into the drive and it sees it as a blank disk. I put a blank DVD in the drive and nothing happens. I put a DVD I wrote with this same drive from a week ago and it sees the disk and opens. Any one have any ideas as to what could be wrong, or how to troubleshoot this issue. Thank you in advance for any help.

    Does toast see it? Can you burn it?
