      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I&#039;m building a new HTPC and I&#039;m looking for a blu-ray/dvd/cd burner that runs quietly even at high speed. There seem to be two types of drives, ones that have an active dynamic balancing mechanism built into the spindle. And ones that have just the motor.<br />
<br />
The ones with ADB are near whisper silent, and very quiet even at 48x speed. No vibration, no humming or buzzing. As for the others, they sound like a 747 taking off or a toilet that doesn&#039;t stop flushing.<br />

I&#039;ve narrowed down my search for a Dual Layer burner to these two models and just can&#039;t pick between them.<br />

There isn&#039;t much price difference between the two models where I&#039;m buying from, they are both £14 pounds / $21 dollars. I have checked some places and I don&#039;t know if they are accurate but one isn&#039;t much newer than the other both released about October (Samsung) / November (Pioneer) time.<br />

It will do just fine on data dvds and blank dvd&#039;s but dvd movies, the drive just grinds away and tells me to insert a disc when there is one in it.  I downloaded the most recent codecs for media player. Installed cyberlink power dvd, installed vlc, all with no avail.  I didn&#039;t think any of those would work since the drive does not even recognize there is a disc in it to play, it just grinds away.  Is the only solution a new drive?  It plays audio...<br />

I hope you guys are doing ok.<br />
I recently bought myself an ASUS BW-12B1ST blu-ray burner and while the first few days it worked wonderfully, now it is ruining every blank bluray disc I try to burn.<br />
When recording reaches 99% the recording fails and the blu-ray is not usable.<br />
I tried Nero 12 and DVD FAB 9 with the same results.<br />
The message is &quot;invalid address for write&quot;.<br />
I don&#039;t know if the problem is the PC (Windows 7 64-bit), the burner or the discs.<br />

I recently installed an LG bluray writer (WH14NS40) in my Vista system. It reads blank dvds, audio cds, and blu-rays perfectly. It also reads burned dvds that I have previously shrunk using dvd decrypter and dvdshrink (using another dvd-writer). <br />
