    After you restart your computer, check to see that the autoexec.nt file has not been removed from the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder. If the file was removed, do the following.

    1. Save autoexec.nt into the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder

    2. Right click the autoexec.nt file and click properties.

    3. On the General tab, where it says Attributes: Tick Read-only, Click on Apply, then Ok. Restart PC.

    This will stop the autoexec.nt file from being removed during the reboot process.

    ......................................................

    If you need the files autoexec.nt or config.nt, copy and paste the following code into notepad and save into the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32 folder.

    For autoexec.nt

    @echo off
    lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\mscdexnt.exe
    lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\redir
    lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dosx
    SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3

    For config.nt

    dos=high, umb
    device=%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\himem.sys
    files=40

    hi,
    I have the same problem. Silly question here, I am not able to find the repair folder nor am I able to find any files in my system folder. I did go to options and make "hidden folders" unhidden. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hey

    Click on start, then go to Run.. now time in CMD

    Now it should bring up a black box with something like C:\Documents and Settings\Username\>

    Now u have to make sure your windows XP disc is in there

    Then type the following (D: being your CD-ROM drive, if its E: change all the D:'s to E:'s)

    expand D:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt
    (PRESS ENTER)
    expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
    (PRESS ENTER)
    expand D:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com
    (PRESS ENTER)
    exit
    (PRESS ENTER)

    Then restart your comptuer and try the program again.

    Hi,
    I tried the solution from StevieJp and that didn't work. I then tried the solution of typing in the commands for config.nt, autoexec.nt and command.com. This did not work either. I keep getting the message that there is no destination specified. I even tried it by changing the destination from c:windows\system32 to c:winnt\system32 since my system32 folder is under WINNT. Please help....
    Thanks..Sodie88

    If you have tried the expand D:\ etc... and the creating the files with Notepad, and restarting and still does the same;

    Sorry for the delay, been really busy at work.

    Go into control panel and uninstall AdControl, then delete the folder Windows Adcontrol in program files.

    Now run hijack this then put a check in the following and fix.

    C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe
    C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdAlt.exe

    Hi,
    I've done everything you've suggested and it still does not work. I had to download McAfee because this issue is preventing me from downloading the lastest virus definitions from AVG. I know its not good for the pc to run two different AV programs but I have no other option right now. I can't even uninstall AVG because of this darn error. I ran HiJackThis again and am pasting the log for your review. Thanks again for your help!
