An AVI file of that size will probably not fit onto a standard DVD5...normally a movie of around 700mb (AVI) converts to aroung 4gb, thats around 2+ hours, so you may have to use a DVD9. Heres a simple guide on how I burn my AVI files using NeroVision http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/356114/2104525 there is an excellent guide in my sig (by alkohol) also using NeroVision.
yeah it asks for a dvd-9, but arent all is discs considered 9's? I have done a few already using alkohol's tutorials, very helpful. The movie is pirates 2, that's why it's so big of a file. also beerfest is only 701mb and it wont let me do that one either.
i don't think so, i just bought the hp lightscribe dvd 840 i was told that all recordable dvd's are dvd 9's I just bought 100 bucks worth of lightscribe discs last night. Also, i just tried to lower the quality and it did'nt change anything
When i'm in nero vision and i go to add files and it brings it up, it shows the blue bar slightly passed the green.
Is this your drive: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/prod...FEED->PRODUCTS&cm_ite=1 PRODUCT&cm_keycode=92 If it is, it looks like your dvd burner does support dual layer. Dual layer dvd media can hold about 7.95gb. You may want to get familiar with all the terms by taking a look at the glossary section here at afterdawn. Here is the link to DVD9 definition: http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/dvd-9.cfm If you do not want to reduce the quality, then go buy some dual layer media.
Was there a pop up stating that the movie will not fit on a dvd5 media? You should have an option to automatically reduce the quality so that it can fit onto a dvd5. Dual layer disc are quite expensive so I usually burn them on dvd5 still.
yes that is my drive, ireally don't want to go and spend more money on discs right now, how should i go about reducing the quality. I clicked "more" and then video options then dvd video... is that where i want to be?
no, no pop ups, it will let me go through with burning it , it just gives me a warning that it may not work i'm using sony dvd-r 4.7gb
Click on More, then click on Video Options, then click on Dvd-Video tab. Go to Quality Settings and lower the quality until it fits. Hope this helps
it say" your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal dvd, but still fits on to a dvd-9 disc. You need a dvd9 media to record your project on."
yeah that worked, i had to lower it to "long play" what will be the difference? If it noticably different, then i'll bite the bullet and get some 9's. o.k. thanks all gotta get this burning i really appreciate this site! you guys are awesome
The size has nothing to do with conversion to DVD, only the length of time of the movie matters. I routinely convert 1400MB Xvid AVI's, the latest was actually 1.36GB with a running time of 1 hour 23 minutes, to fit on DVD-5s. NVE's default bitrate "Standard Play' is 5073 kb/s and is good for an almost 2 hour movie, irregardless of the size of the original AVI. Lowering the bitrate will allow for a longer movie. For example a 2 hour 10 minute movie will require a bitrate of about 4400 kb/s which with an Xvid/AVI conversion will still look good. Also note that with Xvid conversions you usually don't really have to even fill the blank to the brim, like when you transcode, for max quality. Usually a tripling of the the Xvid's bitrate is all that is needed to max out the quality. Seeing as many 700MB Xvid's have a bitrate of about 1100 kb/s, you only need a bitrate of about 3500 kb/s when converting to DVD, nothing is really gained going higher as the quality is pretty much locked in by the original Xvid conversion.
@MysticE, This is not the first time we have disagreed on something, I WILL stick by my statement and I am certain that what I have written is in fact correct. When someone with any knowlege on this matter tells me otherwise then once again WE DISAGREE
What a cheap shot, your insulting comment is totally uncalled for. Maybe you should report yourself to the mods.
