    can anyone tell me what freeware programme would be best to compress movie files of various extensions e.g .avi, .mov etc.. looked up flash compressor for mac, dont understand what swf is

    I assume that you wish to compress a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder to AVI, MOV, etc. formats with a freeware application. HandBrake will accomplish this.
