Using DVD Xcopy Platinum, when trying to back up this movie program will stop and give reading error exactly 50% into backup, did Mel Gibson ask for some special protection?
Works fine with any other movie.

Have you tried useing shrink or any other encodeing software? I would not state anything about a rented movie. It is against the law to copy them.

I tried to back this up both times one ridata. The first time was movie only. when played i only get a narr. audio. the second time (Whole movie) no sound. when got sound, it was the same as before. I am using dvd shrink. Any ideas??? This is the first time i have had any problems.

Second note. I am using an older verison of Shrink. When i use the new one, (where it burns too) the program gives an error to the point of an I/O error device failure. Any Ideas out there to what the porblem is?

    Hi rjslik, Welcome to aD,

If you don't mind, I'd like to work with you since it's your thread -

Are you using Movie only or entire disc when using XCopy ?

    Are you using Xpress ?

    Is your version RF ?

Get back to me with the answers, OK

    cheers,

    Pete

Shop around online for nero6 oem. I got it for $9 w/ $5 shipping and it works just fine just no fancy box. I'm sure there's other bebefits to the deluxe version but for what I'm doing oem does the trick.

Well, i have backed that movie up and the only thing different is the copy protection which is the css and it has the rce encryption, both over ridable. What did it say when it was 50% done?

i successfully burned it with Record Now, (came with my burner), but none of my DVD players read it. I tried it on all 3, and it said: error reading disc????? And I don't want to buy any software...i really need to get this backed up, and give it to a friend. i bought the original, and I want a backup for my friend. Nero worked for me when trying to burn starsky & hutch, but the trial is gone...and i don't know about record now..it didn't work...and dvd x copy is horrible, i dont even know how to work it....

I backed up this movie using Shrink and Nero with no problems. You need to do a full disc back up with this one so that all the languages and subtitles work right. Since there are no extras you don't gain much doing a movie only back up. Incidentally, Record Now burns VIDEO_TS folders fine. Just use Record Now in Data mode and have it burn the folder. It always works for me, although I generally use Nero. The only thing I don't like about Record Now is you can't set the burn speed to anything specific.

Even if you don't buy any other software, I highly recommend nero.

I finally managed to successfully back up "The Passion of the Christ" I used COPY TO DVD found in the software section. I didn't use nero or anything. It works perfectly. And I did this myself btw, so to any1 who is having problems backing this up....1st shrink w/ DVD Dhrink, that creates a video_ts folder, then download COPY TO DVD, (not 123 Copy DVD, no way, not that), then your on ur way to burning success....

Hey guys, we need a little order around here -

We won't accomplish anything just posting random pieces -

    @ Rislik,

Try the following: a guide for ripping problem DVD's:

    Here's a few Helpful Hints:

For starters you can do the following:

    1. Thoroughly clean the disc you are about to copy with alcohol and a soft cloth.

    2. Begin playing your DVD on your PC's Power DVD or other player. Play for about 2 OR 3 minutes then start your ripping program. Continue to play the DVD until the ripping begins - then turn your player off.

Should you have problems with DVD Shrink or your RF XCopy, try ripping with DVD Decrypter. You can also adjust Decrypter under Tools, settings, File, to remove PUO's - this works on some nasty discs.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

Lastly, you can rip with SmartRipper.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm

When you have your files, all in a VIDEO_TS folder, pick them up with either your DVD XCopy RF , CloneDVD2, DVD2One OR your DVD Shrink for processing :)

    I hope that helps,

    @ Mort81,

In some countries it is indeed against the law to copy them, in other countries there is no law against it :)
    Cheers :)

    @taztaz31,

    I
As you stated, you are using an older Version of DVD Shrink. I suggest you try the new and improved version -

    Get it here:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Should you still encounter trouble, see the answer to rjislik at the top of this post :)

    Cheers -

    @ bloodaxe,

Any suggestions about which question, mate ?

    Cheers,

    @ Xman2004

DVD XCopy RF will do it but, as you might know, it's not available anymore :(

My question is, why don't you change your DVD Shrink settings and let DVD Decrypter burn it for you as an ISO image? You're using 2 proggys to go from start to finish and they both are free.
Here's a guide for using DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink - copy the settings for Shrink and Decrypter and do it all for free :)

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/74599

To make sure that everyone reading this will understand, it a very limited burning success, soon the man comes for his $$$$
I'm glad you're happy with CopyToDVD but that's a $$$$ program too, just like Nero, and it's trial will run out also. If I had my choice, and only enough money to buy one, I'd buy Nero Ultra 6, not CopyToDVD. Nero has several proggys, CopyToDVD is only a burner (a very good burner but still, only a burner). When that trial is over, and they want their money you can try CloneDVD2. Soon however, you'll run out of trial offers :(

Again, I'd just LOVE to know why you're so in love with VOB files ?

    Cheers,

    @ neewbie,

I'm thinking it's the older version that's giving him the problem, don't you ?
Either that OR he's going to have to give DVD Decrypter a try, yes ?

    @ canmaker,

    LOL, yea Buddy, that's a distinct possibility -- one I wouldn't have thought of - :p)
(and they say my head isn't screwed on tight, Heh, heh:)

OK there Gentlemen, lets try to keep the thread in some sort of order, Thanks,

    and

    Cheers all,

    Pete

    neewbie,

Yea, me too but I'm thinking that our new friend rjslik is using something like maybe a DVD Shrink 3.0 maybe a 3.1 and that's why he's getting stuck reading the disc.

What do you think about the new quality settings ?

They're working some more on the quality settings, trying to see what does better on what type of movie -

What setting do you like ?
