@Doc Yeah, I hear that. My NEC 3550a scan like crap too. Shows the same type of E.O.B nonsense that kills the quality score. Same disc's scanned with the 1650 are much better.
Burned on a DW1670 just out of the box .. no QSuite installed .. firmware updates ignored .. just stuffed it and burned with Nero .. Scanned with my DW1640 because there's no Ethernet card in the PC that I stuck the DW1670 in ... Not bad for a virgin drive ...
@catfreak VERY nice for a 'virgin' drive actually...i am impressed~ if that is any prediction of what it CAN do once everything is updated/utilized, it will be a great drive for the future~ @9mm definitely agree with you there, some burners are great at burning, but prove to be HORRIBLE at scanning, just a compromise that we have to live with i guess~ both your NEC and my Pioneer are such drives~ docTY~
You lucky (cat)! LOL Now my benq 1650 is a month and a half old and obsolete- LOL 128 PI failures, Not too shabby.
I finally got around to burning with the BenQ 1650. Burned two different discs at 8x. The Verbatim and the Ritek P16. Here are the scan results: OD branded 16x media - Ritek P16 Verbatim MCC-004 Does QSuite need to be activated whilst burning in order for solidburn to learn the media?
I tried burning the Ritek P16 tonight at 12x to see what happened and the disc fried kaput. Had to burn at 8x max with the BenQ. Here is the results of the 8x burn: and a 12x burn of the Verb MCC 004 The 12x was no problemo for the MCC media. And it scaned well too!
Hi, 9mmruger1. The answer to your question "does QSuite need to be running for SolidBurn to work?", is no. SolidBurn once enabled is a system setting (ie written to the drive). This means that even if drive is removed & put in another pc with no QSuite installed. SolidBurn will still be active.
Ruger: Those results should improve after getting her broke in. BTW: The break-in period of my original 1620 was around 3000 backups, LOL. Hard to kill one of these benqs!!!
Saugmon, yeah I hear you. I am really pleased so far with this drive. It is so quiet. My NEC sounds like a freight train when it is running and the BenQ nada! I am hoping that even the Ritek P16 will improve with usage. The burn from two days ago improve 2% with the second burn. I still don't understand the spikes that I get(both media types), or what would cause them. Any ideas?
I don't know what causes those spikes. Some of my scans,I get a huge and wide spike-and pretty wide at the 2 gb mark. That spike usually bumps down a couple percentage pts. No playback issues with them, and no problem re-ripping them. Just annoying seeing that huge-wide spike at the same spot. I haven't tried any of those Ritek-P16's yet. The sony +1x-16x-SonyD21 and Office Depot +16x Ricohjpn-R03 are decent, but not quite like those 16x MCC-004 verbs.
I have update my fw to BCFC on my DW1650 and here are the first 4 burns with it. Not real pleasing, hopefully they will get better. I wonder if the fact that the discs are episodal have anything to do with the scan results? Thoughts? 2nd P16 1st MCC 004 2nd MCC 004 I am thinking that the drive will improve with usage.
Hi, 9mmrugger1, These drives will improve as they settle. If using SB then despite many folk implying that it takes two to three discs, I've known it take more (personally on a new drive or f/w I use a minimum of 5 discs). For those who are new to SB, it takes a default strategy that may or may not be close to that of the disc (this default strat has the same start point regardless of media inserted). It tests each & every disc (so in that sense never stops learning). The only difference is that after that 1st disc the next discs strategy point is taken from learned memory. A rogue disc can throw a spanner in the works. Hence in this scenario it's probably quicker(cheaper, less discs 'wasted while learning) to clear learned memory. Sometimes if results are significantly lower than that of other users, reflashing the same f/w can show an improvement.
Thank you for the insight. I am not to worried at this point as they play magnificently, both the P16 and MCC's. I will keep an eye on the scans tho to see if there is an improvement. Thank you again for the help with the flash. I keep on learning all the time, and enjoy it. You do a great service to all here.
Hi, Just in case you thought the 1640 dead & buried. MCC 03RG20 @ 16x CloneDVD SB/WOPC enabled OS disabled. 1640 latest f/w BSPB.
It's amazing how much imput you put in just to analyze "you bet", wow, I wish that was my main worry in life, the irony is you don't even have any idea who I answered to do you. I wont even say, I let you analyse it some more, sarcasticly speaking.
hey, any of you MCC004 experts use Nero with the DW1650, could do with some advice here re possible not-quite-there-firmware-support for MCC004 - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/338218
