    hi dolphyn,

    a few things I can point out:

    a little out of date try updating to the newest version 6.6.0.15a. first use http://nero.com/us/Clean_Tools.html to delete your current version of nero reboot and install the latest version.

    turn your dma on using this guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html

    really if possible you need to add more memory or turn off as many programs as possible when using nero or your drives will be swapping

    is probably due to your dma being off

    also ensure you are re-formatting the cdrw before you try to use it again. Try to fix some of the things I pointed out and report back with the results so we can give you further assistance if necessary. welcome to AD stick around there is alot of info to soak up.

    @dolphyn - in addition to matt72's reply -

    - newer versions of firmware here (A103, A104 & A105) - http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GSA4163B

    - fix the other problems, and ones suggested by matt72, if you still have problems, try better media

    - that doesn't sound good, i'd try better media anyway

    - uninstall Roxio, it doesn't play well with Nero

    thnx for your replys... i had previous problems with this burner... and the media and dma were the culprit... i bought new media and they were workin fine for about 2 weeks. Im having alot of problems with the dma... on a previous thread by me, someone said to uninstall and reinstall my drivers.. since then, i havent been able to get them to load. Im a little dense in this department so ill try my best to explain... i uninstalled them and reinstalled them and now when i reboot the hdc ( ide cables ) cannot update and goes thru both saying hardware cannot be intsalled or something.. when i go to device manager, my ide cables are listed as unknown device..i have tried to install the drivers but nothing is working.... i think this is why my dma is off..
    yes memory is a problem..im sure i had everything off but it mighta been some of the problem... ill be gettin more in september hopefully.
    i will try the nero reinstall and update after i get my dma fixed and working properly.... as for roxio, i use it for slideshows and am currently in a few projects.. therefor i cant uninstall. I havent had any problems before with it, ... so no clue whats happenin there
    I do erase the disk everytime i use it... should i be reformattin it also? :S
    in my previous thread i have mentioned and explained that i am extremely fearful to try to update my firmware..i dont want to wreck my burner cause i have no clue how to update it properly.. i had asked how to do it and what i should be careful of but, i didnt get too much of a response.. im fearful i might leave a program runnin in the background adn not know it...even after checking..
    i hope this info can help..and i hope i can get this dma/driver/error thing fixed...thnx all

    @dolphyn - checked out you other thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207548 for background info.

    but back to this thread, firmware is what teaches your drive about media/newer media/burn speeds.

    If you want to get burning, you're gonna have to follow our advice i'm afraid..

    i have no problem with that but your tellin me to update my firmware and i keep tellin you, i dont know how...can someone explain to me how... but no one is :S ..how can i fix it if no one explains it to me. I know there are certain things that have to be done and in certain order or certain things have to be off...and i dont know if ill do it correctly..but if someone explains then maybe i can..................... but even after i fix the firmware... .my dma is always being shutoff for some reason and now the ide cables are messed up in my device manager...they arent working right..as i explained above..it was working until this happened

    @dolphyn - let's try it this way then -

    go here - http://ca.lge.com/en/products/mobil...&modelCategoryId=040304&parentId=0403&gcscId=

    - the link doesn't quite work correctly, so then click on 'dvd-rom(writer)' at left middle of screen. Making doubly sure you pick the correct drive...

    ...under the subject column there are instructions for upgrading the firmware. Under the filename column is the firmware file itself.

    edit - here's the readme from the downloaded zip file containing the firmware -

    thnx...but ive already been here ..hence why i know i need a firmware upgrade and hence why i know i need help installing it.. its a bit over my head i guess u can say when it comes to installing it and that is why i keep askin and asking for someone to tell me how to install it.. what if i dont close a program down runnin in the background or something, what happens.... i wreck my burner. that is why im extremely hesitant to do the firmware upgrade with no one tellin me what to watch out for and stuff..... ppl are tellin me where to go but i found that on my own the first day i got my burner..thats not what i need help with. I need help past that stage... after i have clicked download the firmware..... i need to that step. i feel im goin around in circles here..... and im gettin no responses to why my device manager and the ide cables are messed up... right now thats what im concerned with. I understand if no one can help me with that, all i ask is someone plz tell me they cant and i can search other forums and see if anyone else knows how. i appreciate your help, but im not really gettin anywhere...just the same suggestions with my replys ... sigh :(

    @dolphyn -

    all that we have to be sure of here, is this bit - this is the crux of it -

    Right.... here's a way to check that this is the case - run Nero's 'info-tool' program , then click on the 'Configuration' tab. As long as your 4163B burner is on the 'Secondary IDE Channel', and says 'Master', you're good to go, then you just need to run the firmware file (it's EXEcutable), after unzipping the file out of the zipped archive that you download at that link i just provided..

    now were gettin somewhere lol.. thnx.. i know my burner is master cause it wouldnt work on slave... my worry is about the programs runnin in the background. But my ide cables are messed up in the device manager..it says unknown device or whatever and everytime i reboot it tries to find new hardware with hdc...but it fails every time.. i should fix that before messing with the burner more considering im havin problems with the ide cables

    have you recently added this burner or another drive then ?.
    either way you're gonna have to figure out how to make sure all drives are connected correctly.

    then when you get that sorted, to do the firmware update you need to figure out how to disconnect the Toshiba cdrom drive temporarily so that only the 4163B drive is on that secondary cable. if you've got no-one to help you do this you need to figure out how to check or set the jumpers on the back of cd or dvd drives. Hopefully someone will drop by who can explain this to you better than i am

    ..well going by your Nero log, you have bog-standard IDE drivers there, so the DMA fix needs doing again, that will sort the drivers - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm or another way -
