Rosko26. This is my first post to this forum, but this is only because I've been able to solve the zillion problems I've had burning by searching through posts on this web site. I had the exact same problem you had for a few reasons: cheap media, burn speed, burning to close to the edge of a dvd, and my stand alone dvd player which has problems with certain brands of +R and -R media. I discovered this by playing my skipping dvds in another DVD player without any problems. I solved this final problem by ensuring that I set all my burns to booktype: DVD ROM. Now my sensitive DVD player has no problems with my burns.

Thanks to everyone for all the excellent information on this website. I would have given up burning a long time ago if this site didn't exist.

    chaz,

Not all dvdrw drives are capable of bitsetting (booktyping +r/rw media to dvd-rom). What brand of dvdrw do you have?

I used DVDInfo Pro to set my DVD+R and DVD+RW media to DVD-Rom booktype! it was easy and now all my media reads booktype DVD-ROM. For some reason it says that you can only set a BenQ type drive, but my Philips DVD-+RW 8631 drive was able to set all DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs to DVD-ROMs! and according to my DVDInfo Pro, the media info on my recorded disks show it's a DVD+R and the booktype is set to DVD-ROM! soooooooo I guess I'm set! ;-)

    IHoe,

Reason being late model phillips drives are oem benq's. Kinda like like late model sony's are oem lite-on's.

same here but....... I am happily burning so I am monitoring AD less and less! Isn't it funny..... now that I have all that I need, I come back every so often to find that nothing really has changed, just more and more newbies who want the knoweledge and the tips of the trade to do what we all know now! And believe me I am NOT the expert that BBmayo, Creaky or BroBear and Arnibear and many others are!~ I'm just happy to use the programs that I learned here that works and keeps me burning freely....... and it's been well over 3 months now with out a coaster, with well over 100 backups successfully achieved! I now have almost 400 in my collection! This has been a boon of information and I feel like I hit the jackpot here! I do pass it on with others when I can! Thanks to all at AD that share the tips, tricks, and guides to the proggies out there! Many thanks to all!

    chaz,

All your 16x dvdrw's should be bitsetting capable. I need the model numbers on the 8x and 4x to be sure. Benq has a free booktype management app that can be downloaded here. http://support.benq.com/front/BenqM...langu=null&ops=2756&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined

What is your burning proggy of choice? Several proggys are capable of changing booktype of +r/rw media to dvd-rom. Dvdd, nero, dvd shrink, and dvdinfopro to name a few.

    chaz,

The easiest way is to use the booktype utility management app for your benq that I gave you the link to. It will do it automatically once set up. I explained how to do it useing dvdd in this thread and how to check the booktype setting. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/216646#1194669

The good thing about a Factory booktype utility is that you can use any Burning rom.
