Did you install the drivers for the USB Adapter , supplied with CD ?

The most common issue when installing the USB adapter and driver is selecting the correct port for your map software to recognize.

You must make sure your particular software is looking on the correct port for it to transfer any data.

To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:

    1. Go to the Start Menu
    2. Right click on "My Computer"
    3. Select "Properties"
    4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
    5. Click on "Device Manager"
    6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
    7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
    8. Go back to your map software program that you use to transfer data and make sure it is looking at the correct port.
    9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected

If you need drivers go here

    http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm

Follow my advice to step 7. Locate your USB Adapter (port *)

Right click on that port and select properties. Then select port settings, then select advanced. At the bottom of that tab will be a drop down box with the port selected (port * in your case). Use the drop down to select another port (eg 1, 2 or 3). If the port you want to use is already allocated to something else, you can use the same procedure to reassign that port after you have finished.
Save the selections in the usual way. The USB converter will be permanently assigned to the port you selected.

    Hi Celtic,

the problem i am having is that when i go to device manager there isn't a 'port' section listed. i have tried it in all the usb ports with no success. Do you think the adapter could be faulty?

    Thanks

    Hi Tempo,

    thanks for your reply.

I tried it on both my own pc and my mums but it doesnt seem to be picking up the usb adapter in any of the usb ports on either computer. I managed to add hardware in the form on a communications port in my device manager so i now have the ports section, however its just not detecting the adapter.

On my mums pc i did manage to click download and when you select com 1,2,3 or 4 with 1 and 4 it just kept saying something about waiting on the receiver. i searched through threads and have seen other people with a similar problem but couldnt find a solution that worked for me. I'll have another fiddle with it tonight on my own pc then i think i'll ask the seller of the usb lead if he can exchange it as its just not being picked up but either pc which makes me think it could be faulty. Just not sure.

Im not 100% sure if the serial null modem cable is infact that. It was listed on ebay as that, but is there anyway to make sure it is that and not just a rs232 lead? unfortunatly i dont know anyone with a old pc.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

@ mishy .....have a look at this page off flea bay another fella bought this cable and said it didn`t work http://cgi.ebay.ie/DB9-Female-DB9F-9pin-...1QQcmdZViewItem you need a null modem cable db9f to db9f not an rs232 serial cable so try make sure you have the right cable an also this fella had problems with the adaptor make sure you installed it on the computer with the mini disc you got with it so when its installed you go into control panel then system and hardware then device manager and then plug the adaptor in to the usb then ports should appear after you plug it in to change the com port number ... when you go to the eurovox loader and press download it should pick up your box you shouldn`t have to pick the com port from the loader it should come up version 2.10 detected where it says com port 3
