@binkie7 I'm almost sure gwendolin told me I could do it that way. I clicked on my Nero6.6.0.18.exe that I had updated with before and it told me I was installing an older version. I did install and no looking back it work with no issues that I know of. I guess I'm lucky. From what I'm hearing about Nero 7, I don't think I want any part of it.

Possibly a stupid question but does DVD Shrink work ok with Nero 7?

I know Nero 7 is buggy and a little unpleasant for now, but hopefully they'll improve it...

I had an error with nerovision express 3 when I installed the update in question too, there were no thumbnails when I added files and preview didn't work either. I think they're trying to force us to update to Nero 7..... I've never loved System Restore more than I did that day!

I don't have Nero 7 but I think the latest version is OK. Earlier ones weren't.

You need to edit out your serial# it begins 1A20XXXXXX... Someone will come along who can read the log better than I.

You have the buggy last version of Nero so follow this, from a previous reply by john123:
    About your Nero log...
I couldn't find anything about your firmware for your burner, here is some information about it in another thread:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/321910

DMA is off, plus you have Nvida drivers which makes it difficult to get DMA enabled.
    Try enabling your DMA:
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html

and if that fails read this:
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=96320

Your LG media, which is rated as 4X media.....
You tried burning this at 8X with DMA off
    Info on this media:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=3254&searchdvdwriter=1187

And the odd thing is that this media was not recognized, even though it was read:

    I would try these fixes.

Install the bug-free earlier version of Nero. Make sure you use the CleanTool.

Get some better media. Look at some threads in the DVD media forum here. I use Taiyo Yuden, Ritek and Verbatim -R media.

    Slow the burn speed down.

Enable DMA, if possible. Take a look at the links about these Nvidia drivers and chipsets.

Replace the burner with something else. I don't see any way to update this burners firmware. Someone else may know more about this though.

    Frank

Nero 7 ultra has the exact same problem. I used to be able to burn quickly and easily with 6.6 now everything is screwed up. I have installed and cleaned and reinstalled to many times to count. Nero 7 is buggy. I really wish they would issue an update for this problem!

Post your last failed Nero log. Maybe we can sort it out for you and hopefully get you to burning easily again.
If still using 7 the log can be found here:
    program files>nero>nero7>core>nerohistory.txt.
Just be sure to edit out your serial #.

I've been using DVD Shrink with Nero StartSmart 6.3.1.17 for burning (it came installed on my Gateway laptop I received in Aug. 05). . . no problems for 5 months!!! Now, all of he sudden, Shrink won't auto burn to Nero. When I try to burn from my hard drive on Nero, I select "burn DVD-video files." I select the file from Shrink that I saved to my hard drive. I click on NEXT but the "burn" button never lights up.
I've read on here to uninstall and clean then reinstall. Would this work for me? Will my serial number work for the reinstall? I try to "update" button but it says I need to be connected to the internet for it to work. I'm on a wireless and have checked the connection each time this happens. Also try to use the HELP button on Nero and it says the "help file cannon be accessed . . . access denied." Help!!!!!!

What I had was a OEM version of Nero with the serial number tied to the burner that it came with ... I had to run a clean tool, reinstall the old version of Nero with my disc (for the s/n), then update Nero to v6.6.0.18 ...

Binkie7: you said . . . It sounds like under 'select back up target' you have 'iso image file' or 'hard disc folder' selected. When your click back up make sure your drive is selected under 'select back up target'.
So is the "drive" the one my blank media is in? I too have been working with DVD Shrink (newest version) for months, then suddenly it stopped after the encoding and Nero (6.6.0.18) wouldn't burn. Thanks in advance for your help

Binkie7 . . . I took a look at the back up target I had selected . . . sure enough I had the "hard drive" selected. Don't know when I changed that . . . maybe I accidentally did it and haven't noticed it until you pointed it out to me. Now working like a charm again. Thanks for you "wisdom" on this technical error. I can always count on someone in Afterdawn to get me through my problem.

Glad we could help ya out!!
Shrink usually defaults to the last option set (burn speed, back up target etc.) so I always double check when using it.

I agree with Binkie, checking the settings is something I do everytime I start a burn session. I'll go through the Preferences menu and then take a look at my burn settings.
Part of the reason I do this is because in the course of answering posts and just experimenting, I change things around. When I want to use Shrink for an actual movie, I set it all back to my preferences. It only takes a minute.

    Hi guys,
I have been a lurker on this site for a really long time, and it's taught me everything I know about burning. You guys are really great!
I've recently experienced the same problem with Nero and would like to uninstall it and replace it with the earlier non buggy version. However, I can't find my serial number anywhere. Is there any way to find it on the computer? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

    Open Regedit, and go to:
    “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ahead\Nero-Burning Rom\Info”
Your Nero 6 serial number is there.

    Hi,

you guys are really amazing with all your advice. I seem to be having a similar problem. I did the clean remove and re-install of 66018 and the updates, but I can not auto burn to NERO. In preferences I have NERO selected but when going to backup I can not select a Recorder. I am not sure if this maters but I am using a new poineer recorder that is a DVR-110D and I did notice in my other version of NERO it showed this device status Not avaialble and a red x next to it. The other drive on my system is a sony crx-310ee. This came with my new Dell and I think it is a recorder though DELL did not sell it as one, but NERO did show it was one (surprise!). I tried using both drives when opening a disk, but SHrink still does not allow me to select a recoder. I read that the pioneer is a top rated drive, so I bouhgt that for burning and just updated the firmware and would like to continue using it. I have used the Poineer drive to burn with (dare I say) ROXIO and it worked fine. I am really stuck, can some one please help me? thanks
